عن عبد الله بن عمر رضي الله عنهما أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: ثلاثة قد حرم الله تبارك وتعالى عليهم الجنة: مدمن الخمر والعاق والديوث الذي يقر في أهله الخبث (مجمع الزوائد، الرقم: 7721)
Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhuma) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “Three people are such that Allah tabaaraka wata‘ala has made Jannah haraam upon them (i.e. until they do not undergo punishment in Jahannum and are purified from their sins, they will not gain entry into Jannah); (the first person is) the one who is a habitual consumer of wine (or any other intoxicant), (the second person is) the one who is disobedient to his parents, and (the third person is) the ‘dayyooth’ - the one who allows people to commit sin with his wife (or any of his household).”

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (radhiyallahu 'anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu 'alaihi wasallam) said, “The one who recites Surah Haa Meem Dukhaan on the night of Jumu’ah (i.e. Thursday night), his (minor) sins will be forgiven.”
عن عقبة بن عامر قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: إن الصدقة لتطفئ عن أهلها حر القبور وإنما يستظل المؤمن يوم القيامة في ظل صدقته (مجمع الزوائد، الرقم: 4614)
Hazrat Uqbah bin Aamir (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “Indeed, sadaqah extinguishes the heat of the (punishment of the) grave for those who give sadaqah, and on the Day of Qiyaamah, a believer will be in the shade of his sadaqah.”
عن أنس بن مالك أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: أرحم أمتي بأمتي أبو بكر وأشدهم في دين الله عمر وأصدقهم حياء عثمان وأقضاهم علي بن أبي طالب (سنن ابن ماجة, الرقم: 154)
Hazrat Anas (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “The most merciful of my ummah towards my ummah is Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), and the most firm in (upholding) the command of Allah Ta‘ala is Hazrat Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), and the one possessing the most hayaa is Hazrat Uthmaan bin Affaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), and the one possessing the most knowledge (and insight) in passing judgement is Hazrat Ali bin Abi Taalib (radhiyallahu ‘anhu).”
عن ابن عمر قال: كنا نقول ورسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم حي: أفضل أمة النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم بعده أبو بكر ثم عمر ثم عثمان رضي الله عنهم أجمعين (سنن أبي داود، الرقم: 4628)
Hazrat ‘Abdullah bin ‘Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhuma) mentioned, “Whilst Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) was alive amongst us, we would say (and Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) would not object, but approve of what we were saying), ‘The greatest person of the ummah after Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) is Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), thereafter Hazrat ‘Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), and then Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu).’”

Hazrat Ummu Salamah (radhiyallahu ‘anha) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “If any person wears an item of clothing in order to show off before people, and people then look at him (i.e. he succeeds in getting the attention that he wanted from people), then Allah Ta‘ala will not look at him with mercy until he removes the clothing, whenever it may be that he removes it (i.e. even if he only removes it after a long period, he will continue to remain deprived of Allah’s mercy for that entire period).”
عن أنس قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: يهرم ابن آدم وتشب منه اثنتان: الحرص على المال والحرص على العمر (صحيح مسلم، الرقم: 1047)
Hazrat Anas (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “The son of Nabi Aadam (‘alaihis salaam) (i.e. man) grows old, yet two qualities within him remain young; (these two qualities are) the desire for (acquiring more) wealth, and the desire to live longer (i.e. in order to fulfil his lengthy, worldly aspirations and ambitions).”
عن معاذ بن جبل قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: من عير أخاه بذنب لم يمت حتى يعمله (سنن الترمذي، الرقم: 2505)
Hazrat Mu’aaz bin Jabal (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “Whoever taunts (and insults) his (Muslim) brother for a sin (which he has repented from), he will not pass away until he (himself) commits that sin.”

Hazrat Abu Ayyoob (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that on one occasion, a Sahaabi came to Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) and said, “O Rasul of Allah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam)! Give me some advice, and keep the advice brief (so that it will be easy for me to remember it and practice upon it).” Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) replied, “When you stand up to perform your salaah, then perform the salaah of one who is departing (i.e. as though it is the salaah of a person who is about to depart from the world and is performing his last salaah in this world), and do not utter any statement for which you will have to present an excuse tomorrow (on the Day of Qiyaamah), and make a firm resolve that you will not have any expectation and hopes in that (wealth) which is in the hands of others (i.e. become content with that which you possess, and do not aspire for those worldly possessions which are by others).”

Hazrat Anas (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that the Nabi of Allah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “If only you people knew that which I know (regarding the Hereafter and the severe punishment in store for those who transgress the limits of the Shari‘ah), then certainly you would laugh little and weep abundantly.”
عن ابن عباس رضي الله عنهما قال: قال النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم: نعمتان مغبون فيهما كثير من الناس الصحة والفراغ (صحيح البخاري، الرقم: 6412)
Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbaas (radhiyallahu ‘anhuma) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “There are two bounties which are such that many people suffer a loss in regard to them; (these two bounties are) good health and free time (and available opportunities to do good deeds).”
عن أبي الدرداء قال: سمعت النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم يقول: ما من شيء يوضع في الميزان أثقل من حسن الخلق وإن صاحب حسن الخلق ليبلغ به درجة صاحب الصوم والصلاة (سنن الترمذي، الرقم: 2003)
Hazrat Abu Dardaa (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports, “I heard Nabi (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) saying, ‘There is nothing (i.e. no good deed) that will be placed in the scale (of good deeds) which will be weightier than good character, and indeed the person who possesses good character will certainly reach, on account of his good character, the lofty rank of the one who keeps (abundant nafl) fasts and performs (abundant nafl) salaah.”
عن أبي هريرة قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: إذا كان أمراؤكم خياركم وأغنياؤكم سمحاءكم وأموركم شورى بينكم فظهر الأرض خير لكم من بطنها وإذا كان أمراؤكم شراركم وأغنياؤكم بخلاءكم وأموركم إلى نسائكم فبطن الأرض خير لكم من ظهرها (سنن الترمذي، الرقم: 2266)
Hazrat Abu Hurairah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “When your leaders will be the best (and most pious) among you, and the wealthy among you will be generous (in taking care of the poor and in spending their wealth in various avenues of deen), and your affairs are decided with mashwarah (mutual consultation with the pious among you), then (at that time,) the surface of the earth will be better for you than the inside of the earth (i.e. being alive during that good time will be better for you than passing away). And when your leaders will be the worst (and most sinful) among you, and the wealthy among you will be misers (holding back the rights of others and causing oppression), and your affairs will be entrusted to your women, then (at that time,) the inside of the earth will be better for you than the surface of the earth (i.e. passing away in such challenging and difficult times will be better for you than remaing alive and getting involved in the fitnah).”
