Hazrat Uqbah bin Aamir (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “Indeed, sadaqah extinguishes the heat of the (punishment of the) grave for those who give sadaqah, and on the Day of Qiyaamah, a believer will be in the shade of his sadaqah.”

In the Mubaarak Hadith, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) informed us that on the Day of Qiyaamah, when mankind will be standing on the plains of resurrection, the sun will be brought so close to them that it will be only one mile away. (Saheeh Muslim #2864)

At that time, every person will wish for some shade in which he can seek shelter from the blazing heat of the sun. Hence, in this Hadith, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) informs us that the sadaqah a person gives will be the means of him gaining shade on the Day of Qiyaamah.

It is mentioned regarding the student of Hazrat Uqbah bin Aamir (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), Hazrat Abul Khair (rahimahullah), who has narrated this Hadith from Hazrat Uqbah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), that he would not allow a day to pass in which he did not give something in sadaqah – even if it was just a piece of bread or an onion. (Saheeh Ibnu Hibbaan #3310)
