Muhammed bin Abu Haatim (rahimahullah) narrates:

Imaam Bukhaari (rahimahullah) had a certain debtor who owed him a substantial amount of money and was delaying in settling his debt.

Once, while Imaam Bukhaari (rahimahullah) was in the city of Firabr, he received information that his debtor had come to the city of Aamul. Hence, we suggested to Imaam Bukhaari (rahimahullah) that he should travel to Aamul in order to recover the money he was owed from the debtor. However, Imaam Bukhaari (rahimahullah) replied, “It does not behove us to suddenly arrive there and frighten him.”

The Incident of Hazrat Abul Khair Al-Aqta (rahimahullah)

Written by

Hazrat Sheikh Abul Khair Al-Aqta’ (rahimahullah) said:

Once, on a visit to Madinah Munawwarah, I suffered such hunger that for five days, I had absolutely nothing to eat. I went to the blessed grave of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), and after making salaam to him and his two companions, Hazrat Abu Bakr and Hazrat Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhuma), I said to Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), “O Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam)! It is my wish to be your guest tonight!

At the time of the nikaah of Hazrat ‘Ali (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) to Hazrat Faatimah (radhiyallahu ‘anha), Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) instructed Hazrat Faatimah (radhiyallahu ‘anha) to fulfill the responsibilities within the home, and instructed Hazrat ‘Ali (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) to fulfill the responsibilities out of the home. (Musannaf Ibni Abi Shaibah #29677)

Thus, after her nikaah, Hazrat Faatimah (radhiyallahu ‘anha) would always attend to all the domestic responsibilities and household chores herself. She would grind the flour and bake the bread herself. Likewise, she would carry the water skin and fetch water for the house, and she would also sweep the house herself. As a result, her hands developed calluses from rolling the grind stone, her chest developed marks from carrying the water skin, and her clothes would become dusty due to the sweeping.

During the period when the Banu Haashim were under boycott in the Valley of Abu Taalib, Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddeeq (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) set out from Makkah Mukarramah with the intention of migrating to Abyssinia (and joining the other Sahaabah (radhiyallahu ‘anhum) who had made hijrah to Abyssinia).

On reaching a place named Bark-ul-Ghimaad , Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) met Ibnud Daghinah, the leader of the Qaarah clan. Ibnud Daghinah asked Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), “O Abu Bakr! Where are you going to?” Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) replied, “My people have driven me out. I wish to travel in the land of Allah and worship my Rabb freely.”

Imaam Bukhaari (rahimahullah) was extremely cautious in regard to gheebah (backbiting). Hence, Imaam Bukhaari (rahimahullah) once mentioned, “From the time I learnt that gheebah is haraam, I never made the gheebah of any person.”

It was on account of Imaam Bukhaari (rahimahullah) exercising a very high level of caution in regard to gheebah that he once said, “I have hope that when I meet Allah Ta‘ala, He will not take me to task for making any person’s gheebah.”

After the marriage of Hazrat ‘Ali (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) and Hazrat Faatimah (radhiyallahu ‘anha), Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said to Hazrat ‘Ali (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), “O ‘Ali! The groom should host a waleemah.” Hearing this, Hazrat Sa’d (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) immediately gave Hazrat ‘Ali (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) a sheep to prepare for the waleemah, as Hazrat ‘Ali (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) did not possess any wealth.

Other Sahaabah (radhiyallahu ‘anhum) of the Ansaar also gathered some maize and gave it to Hazrat ‘Ali (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) to prepare for his waleemah.

According to the narration of Hazrat Jaabir (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), the Sahaabah (radhiyallahu ‘anhum) also ate dates and raisins at the waleemah of Hazrat ‘Ali (radhiyallahu ‘anhu).

(Majma‘uz Zawaa’id #15214 and 15215)

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) had informed his uncle, Abu Taalib, that besides the name of Allah Ta‘ala, ants had eaten the entire document on which the oppressive resolution was written. Accordingly, Abu Taalib came to the Quraish and informed them of what Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) had mentioned.

Abu Taalib then made a proposal saying that if the claim of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) was proven to be true, then the disbelievers should cease their persecution. On the contrary, if his claim is proven to be false, then Abu Taalib and the Banu Haashim would hand Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) over to the disbelievers. The disbelievers agreed to this proposal and sent for the document to be brought.

Muhammed bin Mansoor (rahimahullah) narrates the following incident:

On one occasion, while we were in the musjid, seated in the gathering of Imaam Bukhaari (rahimahullah), a certain person in the musjid removed some dirt from his beard and threw it on the ground. I looked towards Imaam Bukhaari (rahimahullah) to see whether he had noticed what the person had done. I observed that Imaam Bukhaari (rahimahullah) looked at the dirt on the floor and thereafter shifted his gaze towards the students in the gathering.

The Incident of Hazrat Haatim Asamm (rahimahullah)

Written by

Hazrat Haatim Asamm Balkhi (rahimahullah) was a pious saint who secluded himself in a room for thirty years (i.e he only left the room to perform salaah in the musjid and fulfil other deeni obligations). He did not speak to anyone except when it was absolutely necessary.

When he visited the holy grave of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) in Madinah Munawwarah, he said, “O Allah! We have come to the grave of Your beloved (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam)! Do not send us away from here without being forgiven!”

After Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) performed the nikaah of Hazrat ‘Ali (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) to Hazrat Faatimah (radhiyallahu ‘anha), Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) told Hazrat ‘Ali (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) and Hazrat Faatimah (radhiyallahu ‘anha) to both wait for him at their home.
