The Path of Moderation when Interacting with People

Written by

Yunus bin ‘Abdul A‘laa (rahimahullah) mentions the following:

Hazrat Imaam Shaafi‘ee (rahimahullah) once said to me, “O Yunus! Staying away from people and totally refraining from interacting with them will create enmity in their hearts for you. On the other hand, associating with people too much will cause you to fall into bad company. You should thus adopt the path of moderation by neither associating with people too much, nor completely cutting yourself off from them.”

(Siyar A’laam min Nubalaa 10/89)

Hayaa (continued)

Hazrat Hasan Basri (rahimahullah) once mentioned the following regarding the extremely high level of hayaa which Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) possessed, “He would be in his home, and the door would be locked, yet he would not remove his clothing entirely at the time of bathing (i.e. he did not remove his lungi when making ghusl, as is reported regarding the manner in which Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) used to perform ghusl.)”

(Musnad-e-Ahmed #543)

When all his household members accepted Islam, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) invited his intimate friends and close associates to embrace this great blessing of Islam.

The first person that he invited to bring Imaan and accept Islam was his faithful friend, his childhood acquaintance and his intimate confidant, Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu). Without hesitating for even a moment, Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) accepted Rasulullah’s (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) invitation the moment it was extended to him.

Khalaf bin ‘Umar (rahimahullah) narrates the following:

I once heard Imaam Maalik (rahimahullah) mention, “I did not commence issuing fatwas until I consulted those ‘Ulamaa who were more knowledgeable than myself and sought their opinion. I asked them, ‘Do you regard me capable and worthy of issuing fatwas?’ I asked the great Imaams, Imaam Rabee‘ah (rahimahullah) and Imaam Yahya bin Sa‘eed (rahimahullah), if they felt me to be worthy of issuing fatwas, and they instructed me to serve in this deeni position.”

I then asked Imaam Maalik (rahimahullah), “What would you have done had they prohibited you from issuing fatwas?” Imaam Maalik (rahimahullah) replied, “If they prohibited me from issuing fatwas, I would have certainly refrained. It is not correct for a person to consider himself worthy of any position and engage in it before he first seeks the approval of those who have more knowledge than him.”

(Siyar A’laam min Nubalaa 8/62)

The Hayaa of Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) - continued

Hazrat ‘Aa’ishah (radhiyallahu ‘anha) reports the following:

On one occasion, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) was lying down in my home and his kurta was slightly moved from the area of his blessed thighs or his blessed shin, though his blessed thighs and shins were covered by his lungi.

During that time, Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) requested permission to enter. Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) permitted Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) to enter, while he was lying down in that condition, and spoke to him.

Spending the Entire Night in ‘Ibaadah

Written by

Laith bin Khaalid (rahimahullah) narrates the following from one of the students of Imaam Abu Hanifah (rahimahullah):

Imaam Abu Hanifah (rahimahullah) would perform abundant nafl salaah during the night. On one occasion, I saw him stand in salaah and recite the entire Qur’aan Majeed until Surah Takaathur. When he reached Surah Takaathur, he continued to recite it over and over again until the time of Tahajjud had ended and he completed his salaah.”

The Very First People to Accept Islam – Part Two

Written by

On the day after Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) was blessed with prophethood, he was performing salaah with Hazrat Khadijah (radhiyallahu ‘anha) when Hazrat ‘Ali (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) saw them and asked, “What is this?” Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) replied, “This is the deen of Allah Ta‘ala. The prophets of Allah Ta‘ala brought this very same deen to the world. I am inviting you to Allah Ta‘ala; to worship Him alone and renounce (the idols of) Laat and ‘Uzza.”

Hazrat ‘Ali (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) replied, “This is something utterly new which I have never heard before. Until I do not mention this to my father, Abu Taalib, I cannot make any decision.” Since Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) was reluctant for his secret to be revealed to anyone, he said, “O ‘Ali! If you do not wish to embrace Islam, don’t mention it to anyone else.”

The Very First People to Accept Islam – Part One

Written by

The very first person to accept Islam was the beloved wife of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), Hazrat Khadijatul Kubraa (radhiyallahu ‘anha). She was also the very first person to perform salaah with Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) in jamaat on a Monday evening. Hence, she is regarded as the first of the Ahl-e-Qiblah (first of the muslims to perform salaah).

Thereafter, Hazrat Waraqah bin Nawfal (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) was honored with embracing Islam. After Hazrat Waraqah bin Nawfal (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), Hazrat ‘Ali (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), who had been in the care of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) for some time, accepted Islam at the age of ten.

On Tuesday, one day after Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) was blessed with prophethood, he also performed salaah with Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) in jamaat.

The Hayaa of Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu)

Hazrat Anas (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “The most merciful of my ummah towards my ummah is Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), and the most staunch in (upholding) the command of Allah Ta‘ala is Hazrat ‘Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), and the most true in hayaa is Hazrat ‘Uthmaan bin ‘Affaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), and the most knowledgeable regarding halaal and haraam is Hazrat Mu‘aaz bin Jabal (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), and the most knowledgeable regarding the masaa’il of inheritance is Hazrat Zaid bin Thaabit (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), and the most knowledgeable regarding the recitation of the Qur’aan Majeed is Hazrat Ubayy bin Ka‘b (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), and every Ummah has a trustee, and the trustee of this ummah is Hazrat Abu ‘Ubaidah bin Jarraah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu)."

The Character of Imaam Ahmed (rahimahullah)

Written by

Abu Bakr Marroozi (rahimahullah) once explained the character of Imaam Ahmed (rahimahullah) by mentioning the following:

Abu ‘Abdillah, Imaam Ahmed bin Hambal (rahimahullah), would not behave ignorantly, and if any person behaved ignorantly towards him, he would exercise tolerance and forbearance and would say, “Allah Ta‘ala is sufficient for me.” He would not harbor malice for anyone, nor would he act on impulse. He was extremely humble, displayed excellent character and was always seen smiling. He was soft in his approach when interacting with people and was never found to be harsh. If he liked any person, then his love would be for the sake of Allah Ta‘ala, and if he disliked some person, then his dislike would be for the sake of Allah Ta‘ala. If any aspect of Deen was violated, he would become extremely angry for the sake of Allah Ta‘ala. He would tolerate and endure the harm and inconvenience which was caused to him by his neighbors.
