Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) – Part Fourteen

Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) was one of the ten Sahaabah (radhiyallahu ‘anhum) who were given the glad tidings of Jannah by Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) in one gathering.
It is reported from Hazrat ‘Ali (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) that he heard Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) saying:
(In the days of Jaahiliyyah, prior to Islam,) the thought of participating in any custom of Jaahiliyyah never occurred to me, except on two occasions. However, on these two occasions, Allah Ta‘ala saved me and protected me from participating in these customs.
Marroozi (rahimahullah) mentions:
I did not see poor people honored in any majlis (gathering) more than they were honored in the majlis of Imaam Ahmed (rahimahullah). Imaam Ahmed (rahimahullah) was more inclined towards the poor than the rich and wealthy. He was blessed with the quality of tolerance and forbearance, and would not act on impulse or haste. He was extremely humble at all times, and was an embodiment of dignity and respect. When he would sit in his majlis after ‘Asr to attend to people’s problems and answer their deeni queries, then he would not speak until a question was posed to him. When he would proceed to the musjid, he would not walk ahead of people (showing himself to be distinguished and different from the people).

Hazrat Zaid bin Haarithah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) narrates:
During the era of ignorance (the period prior to Islam), when the disbelievers would perform tawaaf of the Ka‘bah, they would pass their hands over the idols Isaaf and Naa’ilah.
Once, I accompanied Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) in performing tawaaf of the Baytullah. As we passed these idols, I passed my hand over them. Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) forbade me from doing this. I thought to myself, “I will touch them again to see what Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) will say.” Hence, I passed my hand over them again. Seeing this, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said with sternness, “Did I not prohibit you?”
By Allah! From that day on, I never touched a single idol until the time when Allah Ta‘ala honored Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) with prophethood and revealed His divine speech upon him (i.e. I never touched an idol until the end of my life).”

Marriage to Hazrat Ummu Kulthoom (radhiyallahu ‘anha):
After Hazrat Ruqayyah (radhiyallahu ‘anha) passed away, Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) married Hazrat Ummu Kulthoom (radhiyallahu ‘anha), another blessed daughter of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam).
After the demise of Hazrat Ummu Kulthoom (radhiyallahu ‘anha), Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) mentioned to Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), “If I had a third daughter (who was unmarried), I would have married her to you (as well).”
Hazrat ‘Ali (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that he heard Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) mention, “If I had forty daughters, I would have given them in marriage to Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), one after the other, until no daughter remained (i.e. after the demise of each one, I would have married him to the next daughter, until no daughters remained alive).”

Imaam Muzani (rahimahullah) mentions:
I went to visit Imaam Shaafi‘ee (rahimahullah) during his final illness. I said to him, “O Abu ‘Abdillah! How are you feeling this morning?” Imaam Shaafi‘ee (rahimahullah) raised his head and replied, “I have commenced the morning departing from the dunya, separating from my brothers and friends, going to receive the recompense of my actions, and proceeding to meet Allah Ta‘ala. I do not know whether my soul is going to Jannah so that I should congratulate it, or whether it is going to Jahannum so that I should console it.” Saying this, Imaam Shaafi‘ee (rahimahullah) began to cry.

Hijrah to Madinah Munawwarah:
Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) and his respected family, Hazrat Ruqayyah (radhiyallahu ‘anha), eventually returned to Makkah Mukarramah from Abyssinia. They thereafter performed Hijrah to Madinah Munawwarah. When Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) arrived in Madinah Munawwarah with his respected family, he was hosted by Hazrat Aws bin Thaabit (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), the brother of Hazrat Hassaan bin Thaabit (radhiyallahu ‘anhu).

It is reported from Hazrat ‘Ali (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) was once asked, “Did you ever worship an idol?” Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) replied in the negative. He was then asked, “Did you consume wine?” Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) again replied in the negative and remarked, “I regarded such deeds to be kufr, even though I possessed no knowledge of the book of Allah and the details of Imaan at that stage.”
Arguing Causes the Noor of ‘Ilm to be Lost from the Hearts
Written by user2Imaam Maalik (rahimahullah) would say, “Arguing and quarrelling in the knowledge of Deen causes the noor of knowledge to be lost from the hearts of the servants.”
Imaam Maalik (rahimahullah) was once asked, “If a person has been blessed with the knowledge of the Sunnah, should he argue in defense of the Sunnah when he sees people opposing it?” Imaam Maalik (rahimahullah) replied, “No! However, he should inform people of the Sunnah. If they accept what he says, then well and good, and if not, then he should remain silent (and refrain from arguing with them).”

The First Muslim to Perform Hijrah with his Family (continued):
When Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) intended performing Hijrah to Abyssinia, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said to him, “Take Hazrat Ruqayyah (radhiyallahu ‘anha) with you. I feel that each of you will support and encourage the other to persevere.”
After a while from the time of their departure, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) asked Hazrat Asmaa (radhiyallahu ‘anha), the respected daughter of Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), to enquire regarding them. After enquiring, she found Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) with her respected father, Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu). She said, “O Rasul of Allah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam)! I received information that Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) is presently travelling in the direction of the sea in the condition that his respected family, Hazrat Ruqayyah (radhiyallahu ‘anha) is seated on a saddled donkey.” Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) became pleased and said, “O Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu)! They are the first people in the world to perform Hijrah in the path of Allah Ta‘ala after the two Ambiyaa, Nabi Lut (‘alaihis salaam) and Nabi Ebrahim (‘alaihis salaam), performed Hijrah.”

The Renovation of the Ka‘bah and Arbitration of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) – Part Seven
Written by user2The following morning, when all the people reached the Haram, they saw that the first person to enter the Haram was none other than Muhammed, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam). The moment they caught sight of him, with one voice they spontaneously proclaimed:
هذا محمد الأمين رضينا هذا محمد الأمين
This is Muhammed, the trustworthy. We are pleased (for him to decide). This is Muhammed, the trustworthy.
Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) asked for a sheet, placed the Hajr-e-Aswad (black stone) onto it and said, “The chief of each tribe should hold this sheet so that no tribe is deprived of this honor.” They all approved of this decision and they all lifted the sheet. When they had all lifted the sheet to the place where the Hajr-e-Aswad needed to be inserted, then Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) himself went forward and with his blessed hands, raised the stone and inserted it into its place.
Hazrat Abu Ja’far Balkhi (rahimahullah) mentioned the following:
I heard that if Imaam Abu Hanifah (rahimahullah) encountered difficulty in understanding any mas’alah and found the mas’alah to be complex and confusing, then he would address his students and say, “This difficulty can only be on account of a sin that I must have committed.” Imaam Abu Hanifah (rahimahullah) would thus engage in istighfaar (repenting to Allah Ta‘ala). Sometimes, Imaam Abu Hanifah (rahimahullah) would stand, make wudhu, perform two rakaats of salaah and thereafter repent to Allah Ta‘ala.
The First Muslim to Perform Hijrah with his Family:
Hazrat Anas (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) had left for Abyssinia, performing Hijrah with his respected wife, Hazrat Ruqayyah (radhiyallahu ‘anha), the blessed daughter of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam). News of their condition was delayed, and hence Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) became concerned and would come out of Makkah Mukarramah, seeking information in their regard. Eventually, a woman came to Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) and gave him information regarding them. On this occasion, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) remarked, “Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) is the first person to perform Hijrah in the path of Allah Ta‘ala with his family after Nabi Lut (‘alaihis salaam).”

Written by user2Following the allocation that had been made previously, each tribe individually gathered stones and began to build their section of the Ka‘bah. When the reconstruction was complete and it was time to insert the Hajr-e-Aswad (black stone) into its place, then a great dispute arose. Swords were unsheathed and people were prepared to fight and kill one another to acquire the honor of raising the stone to its place.
After four or five days passed in this state with no decision being made, Abu Umayyah bin Mugheerah Makhzoomi, one of the eldest members of the Quraish, suggested that the decision be made by the first person to enter the doors of the Haram the next morning. Everybody was pleased with this suggestion.
