Hazrat Khaalid bin Sa‘eed bin ‘Aas (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) was among the first people to embrace Islam. He was either the fourth or fifth Sahaabi to accept Islam.

Before accepting Islam, he saw the following dream. He says:

I dreamt that I was standing at the edge of a broad and deep pit filled with fire. My, father, Sa‘eed, wanted to push me into the pit. Suddenly, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) appeared, held me by the waist and pulled me away. I awoke from the dream saying, “By Allah, this dream is true!” I then proceeded to Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) and related the dream to him. Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) said, “Allah Ta‘ala intends to bless you with goodness. This is the messenger of Allah. Follow him and embrace Islam. Insha Allah you will follow Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) and embrace Islam, and it is your Islam that will save you from falling into the fire. However, it appears as though your father is falling into the fire.”

Imaam Maalik (rahimahullah) once mentioned the following:

I would come to the home of Hazrat Naafi’ (rahimahullah), the freed slave of Hazrat ‘Abdullah bin ‘Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhuma), at midday. The home of Hazrat Naafi’ (rahimahullah) was situated on the outskirts of Baqee’.

Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) – Part Twenty Eight

Written by

On one occasion, Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) entered his pen and found his slave feeding fodder to a camel. On inspecting the fodder, Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) was not pleased with the manner in which the slave had prepared it and thus twisted his ear. After a little while, taking stock of his actions, Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) became concerned and feared that he should not be taken to task for this action in the Hereafter.

The Islam of Hazrat Sa’d (radhiyallahu ‘anhu)

Written by

Hazrat Sa’d bin Abi Waqqaas (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) says:

Three nights before embracing Islam, I had a dream in which I saw that I was engulfed in extreme darkness. On account of the darkness, I was unable to see anything. Suddenly, a moon appeared and I began to follow it. I then saw that Hazrat Zaid bin Haarithah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), Hazrat ‘Ali (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) and Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) had preceded me in reaching this light.

Adopting a Soft and Lenient Approach when Dealing with People:

‘Ataa bin Farrookh (rahimahullah) narrates the following:

On one occasion, Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) purchased a plot of land from a certain person. However, despite Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) calling the person to receive payment for the land, the person was delaying.

When Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) met the man thereafter, he asked him, “What prevents you from coming to collect your money?” The man replied, “The reason that I delayed in coming to collect the money is that I felt that you have not paid me a fair price for the land! Every person that I meet is rebuking me over the price at which I sold you the land.” Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) asked, “Is this really the reason for you not coming to collect your money?” The man replied in the affirmative.

Once, I travelled to Busraa for the purpose of trade. Imaam Abu Hanifah (rahimahullah) Treading the Path of Fiqh

Written by

Imaam Zufar (rahimahullah), the student of Imaam Abu Hanifah (rahimahullah), reports that he once heard Imaam Abu Hanifah (rahimahullah) mention the following, explaining how he had commenced acquiring the knowledge of Fiqh. Imaam Abu Hanifah (rahimahullah) said:

Initially, I commenced studying and acquiring the knowledge of ‘Aqaa’id, until the time came when I was well known and renowned in this field. We would sit close to the gathering of Imaam Hammaad bin Abi Sulaimaan (rahimahullah).

One day, a woman came to me and asked me a mas’alah saying, “A man has a wife and he intends to divorce her in the correct Shar‘ee manner. How many talaaqs should he issue to her?” I did not know the answer, and so I instructed her to go to Imaam Hammaad (rahimahullah) and pose the question to him. I also told her to thereafter return to me and inform me of the answer that he gave. The woman went to Imaam Hammaad (rahimahullah) and enquired regarding the same mas’alah. Imaam Hammaad (rahimahullah) answered, “He should wait for her menses to complete and thereafter issue the talaaq in the state of purity wherein he did not engage in relations with her. He should thereafter allow her to complete her ‘iddat, after which it will be permissible for her to marry another man.”

The Consideration of Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) towards his Servants

‘Abdullah Roomi (rahimahullah) mentions that when Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) would perform wudhu during the night, he would not take assistance from anyone (in pouring the water over his limbs). When someone suggested to him that he appoint one of the servants to assist him and pour the water for him, he said, “No! I do not wish to take service from them at night as the night is the time for them to rest.”

Imaam Ahmed (rahimahullah) Emulating the Sunnah

Written by

Marroozi (rahimahullah) mentions:

I once saw Abu ‘Abdillah, Imaam Ahmed bin Hambal (rahimahullah), stand to complete his ma’mool (apportioned amount) of tahajjud after approximately half the night had passed. He then remained engaged in completing it until it was close to the time of sehri. I also saw him performing nafl salaah (i.e. the sunnah of awwaabeen) between maghrib and ‘esha.
