Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) – Part Forty Six
Written by user2According to some narrations, before Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) commenced dictating the letter, he said to Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), “Give me mashura and advise me regarding who I should appoint as the Khalifah, for by Allah, in my sight, you are also worthy of the position of Khilaafah.” Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) replied, “I will write the name of Hazrat ‘Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu)” and he then commenced writing the letter. However, when he reached the point where the name of Hazrat ‘Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) had to be written, Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) fell unconscious. Since, Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) knew that Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) wanted Hazrat ‘Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) to be the next Khalifah, he wrote his name.
Thereafter, when Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) regained consciousness, he specified, “Write the name of Hazrat ‘Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu).”

Invitation to Islam and Feeding the People - Part Six
Written by user2When the Quraish lost hope in Abu Taalib supporting them, they began to show open opposition and enmity for the Muslims. They started inflicting different punishments on the weak and vulnerable Muslims of the various tribes.
Abu Taalib then called on the Banu Haashim and Banu Muttalib to support and assist Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam). Upon the call of Abu Taalib, all the members of the Banu Haashim and Banu Muttalib responded and promised their assistance. From the Banu Haashim, only Abu Lahab joined the enemy against Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam).

The Abstinence of Imaam Ahmed (rahimahullah) – Part Three
Written by user2Imaam ‘Abdur Razzaaq (rahimahullah) once remembered the following incident regarding Imaam Ahmed (rahimahullah), and began to tear as he narrated it. He said:
When Imaam Ahmed (rahimahullah) arrived, I learnt that all his money was depleted. I thus took ten dinars (gold coins) and presented them to him. When I presented the money to Imaam Ahmed (rahimahullah), he smiled and said, “O Abu Bakr! If there was any person from whom I would have accepted something as assistance, it would have been you.” Saying this, Imaam Ahmed (rahimahullah) declined to accept the money from me.
Note: Perhaps Imaam Ahmed (rahimahullah) declined to accept the financial assistance of Imaam ‘Abdur Razzaaq (rahimahullah) as he felt that he would be able to earn wealth in a halaal manner and remain independent from the creation. The focus of these great servants of Allah Ta‘ala was always towards Allah Ta‘ala, and they never turned their gaze towards the creation, seeking handouts and gifts from them.

Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) – Part Forty Five
Written by user2Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) then called Hazrat ‘Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) in private and gave him certain advices. Thereafter, when Hazrat ‘Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) left the room, Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) raised his hands high and made the following du‘aa:
O Allah! I only intended the good and benefit of the ummah in appointing Hazrat ‘Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu). I fear that if I do not appoint the correct person, the people will fall into fitnah after my demise, and hence I have decided that which I felt was most appropriate, but You know best. After pondering deeply over the matter, I have appointed over them the one whom I felt was the best among them, the most capable of leading the people, and the most desirous for that which will ensure their guidance and goodness. I am now beset by Your command of death which has come to me, so You see to their affairs after me, as they are Your slaves and their forelocks are in Your control. I beseech You to decide that which is the best for them in appointing their Khalifah after me. Make Hazrat ‘Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) be among the Khulafaa-e-Raashideen (rightly guided Khalifas) who will follow the blessed way and example of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), the Nabi of mercy, and the way of all the righteous servants whose positions come after the position of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) (from the Ambiyaa (‘alaihimus salaam)) after him, and make his subjects righteous and obedient to him.
(Hayaatus Sahaabah 2/ 31-33)
Invitation to Islam and Feeding the People - Part Five
Written by user2When the Quraish noticed that Abu Taalib was determined to assist and protect Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), they consulted each other for a third time. They then came to Abu Taalib and said, “‘Umaarah bin Waheed is an extremely handsome, intelligent and understanding youngster of the Quraish. Take him and hand your nephew to us who is responsible for causing disunity among the people. We intend to kill him and save the people from this calamity.”
Abu Taalib replied, “What! How can it ever be possible for me to give you that child which I raised myself and allow you to kill him while I take your child in his place to raise and care for? By Allah! This can never happen!”
Mut‘im bin ‘Adiyy remarked, “O Abu Taalib! Your people have presented you with a fair and just suggestion and an excellent solution to rid themselves of this calamity. However, you did not accept their offer.” Abu Taalib retorted, “By Allah! My people have not been fair to me! You can do whatever you want!”

Following a Person who Holds Deviated Beliefs in Deen
Written by user2Yunus bin ‘Abdil A’laa (rahimahullah) narrates the following:
I once said to Imaam Shaafi‘ee (rahimahullah), “Our companion, Imaam Laith bin Sa’d (rahimahullah), has mentioned in regard to people who hold deviated beliefs, ‘Even if I see a person who holds deviated beliefs in deen walking on water, I will not accept him and follow him.’”
Hearing this, Imaam Shaafi‘ee (rahimahullah) remarked, “Imaam Laith (rahimahullah) has said well, but has not expressed the matter to the point I would have expressed it. I would say that let alone such a person walking on water, even if I see him flying in the air, I would not accept him and follow him.”
(Manaaqib-ush-Shaafi‘ee lilBayhaqi pg. 1/453)
Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) – Part Forty Four
Written by user2When Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) commenced dictating the letter and he reached the point where the name of Hazrat ‘Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) was going to be written, he fell unconscious before he could mention the name of Hazrat ‘Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu). Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) immediately continued the letter for Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) by writing, “I have appointed ‘Umar, the son of Khattaab, as the Khalifah over you.”
Invitation to Islam and Feeding the People – Part Four
Written by user2Abu Taalib was greatly affected by the opposition and enmity of his family and people. When Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) came to him, Abu Taalib said, “My beloved nephew! The people of your tribe came to me and this is what they had to say.” Abu Taalib then mentioned what had transpired between him and the delegation of the Quraish. Abu Taalib thereafter said, “I thus urge you to take pity on me and take pity on yourself as well, and do not make me carry a burden that I cannot bear.”
Imaam Maalik (rahimahullah) once mentioned, “The knowledge of deen is a divine light which Allah Ta‘ala places in the hearts of His selected servants (through which they are able to understand deen correctly). Knowledge of deen is not acquired by merely narrating Ahaadith (without understanding the correct meaning of the Ahaadith).
(Tazyeen-ul-Mamaalik pg. 38)
Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) – Part Forty Three
Written by user2When Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) was in his final illness, he dictated the following letter to Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) in which he appointed Hazrat ‘Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) as the Khalifah after him:
Bismillahir Rahmaanir Raheem
This is the instruction of Abu Bakr, the son of Abu Quhaafah, at the very end of his life in this world, while exiting the world and entering the life of the Hereafter, and he is close to reaching the point (of the throes of death, wherein the signs of the Hereafter become clear to a person and) where a kaafir will wish that he had brought Imaan, a sinner realizes and gains full conviction of his condition, and a liar will wish to become truthful.

Invitation to Islam and Feeding the People - Part Three
Written by user2As long as Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) sufficed on inviting the people to Islam, the Quraish did not interfere with him. However, when he began to invite to Islam openly, began to speak ill of the idol worshippers and began to prevent people from engaging in kufr and shirk, the Quraish began to show him enmity and oppose him. However, Abu Taalib continued to support and assist Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam).
Imaam Abu Hanifah (rahimahullah) in the Words of Imaam Wakee’ (rahimahullah)
Written by user2Imaam Wakee’ (rahimahullah) once described Imaam Abu Hanifah (rahimahullah) in the following words:
By Allah! Imaam Abu Hanifah (rahimahullah) was extremely honest and trustworthy. His heart was filled with the awareness of Allah Ta‘ala and His greatness. He would give preference to pleasing Allah Ta‘ala over everything else. His high level of pleasing Allah at every moment was such that even if he had been struck by swords in trying to uphold deen and please Allah Ta‘ala, he would have surely bore it with patience and been pleased with the decree of Allah, in the manner which the pious friends of Allah are always pleased with the decree of Allah. Certainly, Imaam Abu Hanifah (rahimahullah) was among the pious friends of Allah.

Invitation to Islam and Feeding the People – Part Two
Written by user2Although Abu Lahab was the uncle of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), he always remained in the forefront of causing harm to Islam, just as Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) always remained in the forefront of supporting Islam.
Abu Lahab remained in the forefront when it came to denying Islam, causing harm, mocking, hating and showing enmity, whereas Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) remained in the forefront when it came to personal sacrifice, belief and love for Islam. May the anger and wrath of Allah Ta‘ala descend on Abu Lahab.
The Humility of Imaam Ahmed (rahimahullah) – Part Two
Written by user2Muhammad bin Hasan bin Haroon once mentioned, “I noticed that whenever Abu ‘Abdillah, Imaam Ahmed bin Hambal (rahimahullah), would walk on the road, he disliked that people walk behind him out of honor for him.”
(Siyar A’laam nin Nubalaa 11/226)
Imaam Yahya bin Ma‘een (rahimahullah) said, “I never saw a person like Imaam Ahmed (rahimahullah). We remained with him for fifty years, yet we never saw him, on even a single occasion, boast and express his superiority over us, despite the abundant virtue that he possessed.”
(Siyar A’laam nin Nubalaa 11/214)
