Imaam Abu Hanifah (rahimahullah) in the Words of Hazrat Fudhail bin ‘Iyaaz (rahimahullah)
Written by user2Hazrat Fudhail bin ‘Iyaadh (rahimahullah) once described Imaam Abu Hanifah (rahimahullah) in the following words:
Imaam Abu Hanifah (rahimahullah) was a Faqeeh (person blessed with the true understanding of Deen) and his mastery in the science of Fiqh (Islamic Jurisprudence) is well known to all. He was renowned for his piety, and Allah Ta‘ala had blessed him with abundant wealth. He was known for his quality of showing kindness to those who sought assistance from him. He was steadfast and committed to imparting the knowledge of deen. He would pass the night in an excellent manner through engaging in the ‘ibaadah of Allah Ta‘ala. He would remain silent and would speak very little. However, when he would be asked a mas’alah regarding halaal and haraam, then he would speak and would guide the person towards the truth in an excellent and gentle manner. He would avoid accepting any wealth or gifts from the ruler. If Imaam Abu Hanifah (rahimahullah) was asked any mas’alah regarding which there was an authentic Hadith, he would follow the Hadith and practice upon it. In the case where he did not find a Hadith, but was informed regarding the narrations of the Sahaabah and Taabi‘een, then he would follow what he received from the Sahaabah and Taabi‘een. If Imaam Abu Hanifah (rahimahullah) did not find any Hadith or narration of the Sahaabah and Taabi‘een, he would employ his ijtihaad and thereafter deduce the shar’ee ruling for the mas’alah.

Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) – Part Thirty-Five
Written by user2Appointment as the Khalifah:
Before passing away, Hazrat ‘Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) did not appoint any specific person to succeed him as the Khalifah. Instead, when someone suggested to Hazrat ‘Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) that he appoint the next Khalifah, he said, “If I do not appoint a Khalifah, then Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) did not appoint a Khalifah, and if I appoint a Khalifah, then Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) had appointed a Khalifah.”
Imaam Ahmed bin Hambal (rahimahullah) was greatly honored and held in high esteem by the people. However, despite the people respecting him, he always thought nothing of himself. Below are two incidents that highlight the humility of Imaam Ahmed (rahimahullah):
Muhammed bin Moosa reports that he once saw a person from Khuraasaan come to Imaam Ahmed (rahimahullah) and say to him, “All praise is due to Allah Ta‘ala who blessed me with the opportunity of seeing you!” Hearing the words of this man and the high position that he afforded him, Imaam Ahmed (rahimahullah) responded saying, “Wait! Why are you honoring me in this way? Really, I do not feel that I am worthy of this honor.”
On another occasion, a person praised Imaam Ahmed (rahimahullah) saying, “May Allah Ta‘ala reward you immensely on behalf of Islam for the great service you have done for deen!” Imaam Ahmed (rahimahullah) was affected by the praise to the point where his facial expression changed. Imaam Ahmed (rahimahullah) thereafter responded, “No! Rather, I owe everything to Islam for the goodness that I received through Islam. I therefore make du‘aa that Allah Ta‘ala grant me the ability to show true gratitude for the favour of Islam. Who am I? I do not feel myself worthy of any honor.”

The Islam of Hazrat ‘Uthmaan bin ‘Affaan (radhiyallahu 'anhu) - Part Five

Hazrat ‘Uthmaan bin Maz‘oon (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), Hazrat Abu ‘Ubaidah bin Jarraah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), Hazrat Abu Salamah bin ‘Abdil Asad (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) and Hazrat Arqam bin Arqam (radhiyallahu ‘anhu).

Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) – Part Thirty Four
Written by user2The aunt of Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), Su‘daa, recited the following poetry when he married the respected daughter of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), Hazrat Ruqayyah (radhiyallahu ‘anha):
هدى الله عثمان الصيفي بقوله فأرشده والله يهدي إلى الحق
فتابع بالرأي السديد محمدا وكان ابن أروى لا يصد عن الحق
وأنكحه المبعوث إحدى بناته فكان كبدر مازج الشمس في الأفق
فداؤك يا ابن الهاشميين مهجتي فأنت أمين الله أرسلت في الخلق
Allah has guided His fortunate servant ‘Uthmaan towards the path of guidance. Allah has blessed him with divine guidance and Allah alone guides those whom He wishes towards the truth.
After all, he is the son of Arwaa, and the son of Arwaa treaded on the path of truth and did not move away from it.
And the one sent as the Nabi of Allah (Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam)) handed one of his daughters to him in marriage. This union is such that it resembles the sun and the full moon combining on the horizon.
May my life be sacrificed for you, O son of the Banu Haashim (Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam))! You are the trustee of Allah over deen and you have been sent for the guidance of the entire creation.

Not even a few days had passed when the respected daughter of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), Hazrat Ruqayyah (radhiyallahu ‘anha), came into my nikaah. Everyone was overjoyed and pleased with our nikaah. In this regard, my aunt, Su‘daa, recited the following poetry:
هدى الله عثمان الصيفي بقوله فأرشده والله يهدي إلى الحق

The Advice of Imaam Maalik (rahimahullah) to Imaam Shaafi'ee (rahimahullah)
Written by user2Abu Haatim, Hasan bin Ahmed (rahimahullah) reports the following:
Imaam Maalik (rahimahullah) once addressed Imaam Shaafi‘ee (rahimahullah) and advised him saying, “Allah Ta‘ala has instilled a special noor and divine light within your heart. Do not extinguish this noor through committing sins and falling into the disobedience of Allah Ta‘ala.”

Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) – Part Thirty Three
Written by user2During the khilaafat of Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), Hazrat Huzaifah bin Yamaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) was sent with the people of Iraq and Shaam to wage jihaad in Armenia and Azerbaijan.
While in those lands, Hazrat Huzaifah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) noticed that the people were disputing with one another in regard to the different dialects of the Qur’aan Majeed. Each group, not being familiar with the dialect of the next, began to regard their dialect to be better, and in certain cases, even denied the other dialect.
This condition of the people greatly worried and concerned Hazrat Huzaifah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), as it was resulting in the people denying the Qur’aan Majeed. This concern prompted him to immediately mount his conveyance and set out for Madinah Munawwarah. When he reached Madinah Munawwarah, even before going to see his family, he came to Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) to alert him regarding the fitnah and urge him to address it. Hence, Hazrat Huzaifah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) said to Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), “Save this ummah before they differ and dispute in the Qur’aan Majeed as the Jews and Christians disputed regarding their scriptures, and this led to their misguidance.”
The Islam of Hazrat ‘Uthmaan bin ‘Affaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) – Part Three
Written by user2Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) says:
While I was in conversation with Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), it so happened that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) passed by. Hazrat ‘Ali (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) was with him, and Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) had a cloth in his blessed hand. On seeing Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) stood and whispered something into his ear. Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) then came and sat with us, after which he turned to me and said, “O ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu)! Allah invites you to Jannah, so accept His invitation! I am the messenger of Allah Ta‘ala who has been deputed to you and the entire creation.”
Blessed with the Vision of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam)
Written by user2Muthanna bin Sa’d Al-Qaseer narrates that he heard Imaam Maalik (rahimahullah) mention, “Whenever I go to sleep at night, I am blessed with the mubaarak vision of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) in my dream.”

Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) – Part Thirty Two
Written by user2Hazrat Haani (rahimahullah), the freed slave of Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), mentions that when Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) would stand at a grave, he would weep so profusely that his beard would become wet with his tears. Someone asked Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), “We notice that when you remember Jannah and Jahannum and discuss them, then you are not affected to the point that you begin to cry, yet when you stand at a grave, then we see you so overcome by fear that you begin to cry profusely. What is the reason for this?”
The Islam of Hazrat ‘Uthmaan bin ‘Affaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) – Part Two
Written by user2Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) continued:
I responded, “O aunt! You are speaking of something which is such that I have never before heard its name in this city. I don’t understand.” Upon this, Su’daa elaborated:
محمد بن عبد اللّٰه رسول من عند اللّٰه جاء بتنزيل اللّٰه يدعو إلى اللّٰه قوله صلاح ودينه فلاح وأمره نجاح ما ينفع الصياح لو وقع الرماح وسلت الصفاح ومدت الرماح
Muhammed, the son of ‘Abdullah, is the Rasul (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) sent by Allah. He brought the message of Allah, inviting mankind towards Allah. His word is righteousness and piety, his deen is one of success and his affair is one of salvation. Calls and shouts made against him will be of no avail, even if the spears fall (against him), sides are struck and spears are wielded (against him).
Imaam Abu Hanifah’s (rahimahullah) Concern for Safeguarding his Deen
Written by user2Hazrat Khaarijah bin Mus‘ab (rahimahullah) narrates the following incident:
On one occasion, the ruler, Mansoor, wished to give Imaam Abu Hanifah (rahimahullah) ten thousand dirhams. He thus summoned Imaam Abu Hanifah (rahimahullah) to come and collect the money.
When Imaam Abu Hanifah (rahimahullah) was summoned and learnt that the ruler wished to give him money, he immediately turned to me and asked me for advice saying, “This man is such that if I reject his money, he will be angered, and if I accept it, he will try to influence me and make me compromise in matters of deen.”
Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) – Part Thirty One
Written by user2On one occasion, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) approached a certain person in Makkah Mukarramah and said to him, “O so-and-so! Why do you not sell your house to me, so that I can use the land to extend the musjid around the Ka’bah, and in reward for this good action (besides the money that you will receive for the house), I will guarantee you a palace in Jannah?” The man replied, “O Rasul of Allah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam)! By Allah, I do not possess any other house besides this house! If I sell you my house, there will be nothing to shelter my children and I in Makkah Mukarramah.”
