Following the instructions of Hazrat Abu Zar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), Hazrat Unais (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) came to Makkah Mukarramah, met Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) and thereafter returned home.

On his return, Hazrat Abu Zar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) asked him, “What information have you brought?” Hazrat Unais (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) replied, “When I arrived in Makkah Mukarramah, I found some people referring to him as a liar or a sorcerer while others referred to him as a soothsayer or poet. By Allah! He is neither a poet nor a soothsayer!”

Hazrat Unais (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) was himself an accomplished poet. This is why he remarked, “I have heard the speech of soothsayers, but the message of this man does not bear any resemblance to the speech of soothsayers. I have also compared his words to the various scales and forms of poetry and I saw that it does not have any link to poetry. By Allah! This man is most truthful and honest.”

He also declared:

رأيته يأمر بالخير وينهى عن الشر ورأيته يأمر بمكارم الأخلاق وسمعت كلاما ما هو بالشعر

I have only witnessed him commanding towards righteousness and forbidding from evil. I have observed him enjoining good character and I have heard his message which is in no way related to poetry.
