Sunnats and Aadaab of Iqaamah:

1. Call out the iqaamah with hadr (i.e. reciting it in a swift manner)

Hazrat Jaabir (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) addressed Hazrat Bilaal (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) saying, “When you call out the azaan, then call it out with tarassul (gradually with pausing after each sentence), and when you call out the iqaamah, then call it out quickly.”

2. Each part of the words of the iqaamah will be recited in sets of two. One will join each set of the words of iqaamah and will not pause in between each set (i.e. after completing the set, one will pause).

3. The iqaamah will be called out inside the musjid.

4. It is preferable that the person who gave the azaan calls out the iqaamah.

Hazrat Ziyaad bin Haarith Sudaa‘ee (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that on one occasion I was with Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) on a journey. He commanded me to call out the azaan and I did so. Thereafter Hazrat Bilaal (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) intended to call out the iqaamah. However, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said to him, ‘Your Sudaa‘ee brother (i.e. from Sudaa’, a famous tribe from Yemen) has called out the azaan; and the one who calls out the azaan should give the iqaamat.’

5. Turn the face to the right when saying Hayya `alas-Salaah and to the left when saying Hayya `alal-Falaah. However, if the musjid is not so large that one’s voice will reach the sides without turning the face then there is no need to do so.[1]
