At the time of his blessed nikaah to Hazrat Khadijah (radhiyallahu ‘anha), Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) was twenty-five years old whilst Hazrat Khadijah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) was forty. The mahr (dowry) was fixed at twenty camels. However, according to Seerat Ibn Hishaam and Hafiz Abu Bishr Dawlaami (rahimahullah), the stipulated mahr (dowry) was twelve and a half ooqiyah of silver. Each ooqiyah is equivalent to forty dirhams. Hence, the total dowry was five hundred dirhams. This was the first nikaah of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) whilst it was Hazrat Khadijah’s (radhiyallahu ‘anha) third.

Insha Allah, we will discuss this in more detail in the chapter pertaining to the Azwaaj-e-Mutahharaat (the blessed wives of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam).

On the decided date of the nikaah, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) proceeded to the home of Hazrat Khadijah (radhiyallahu ‘anha) with his uncles, Abu Taalib and Hazrat Hamzah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), and a few other seniors of the family. The father of Hazrat Khadijah (radhiyallahu ‘anha) had passed away before the battle of Fujjaar. Her uncle (father’s brother), ‘Amr bin Asad, was present at her nikaah.

Words of Wisdom

Written by

Imaam Shaafi‘ee (rahimahullah) once mentioned the following:

True ‘Ilm creates steadfastness upon Deen, and the outcome of steadfastness upon Deen is that one will be safeguarded (from falling into sin and wrong). True abstinence of the world creates contentment, and the outcome of contentment is that one will enjoy peace and comfort. True sabr creates determination, and the outcome of determination is that one will eventually reach his goal. The ability to carry out righteous deeds is in actual fact the taufeeq of Allah Ta‘ala, and the outcome of taufeeq is that one will be successful (in acquiring the pleasure of Allah Ta‘ala and Jannah), and every good by Allah Ta‘ala is based on truthfulness.

Wishing Well for Others

Written by

A woman once came to Imaam Abu Hanifah (rahimahullah), wishing to purchase a silken cloth. When Imaam Abu Hanifah (rahimahullah) showed her a certain cloth, she said to him, “I am a weak woman, and it is an amaanah (with which I have been entrusted to purchase this cloth), so please sell me this cloth for the amount that it costed you.” Imaam Abu Hanifah (rahimahullah) immediately said to her, “Take it for four dirhams.” The woman could not believe that Imaam Abu Hanifah (rahimahullah) was prepared to sell her the silken cloth for such a low price, and thus exclaimed, “Do not joke with me, as I am an old woman!”

Imaam Abu Hanifah (rahimahullah) explained to her, “I purchased two cloths. I sold one of the two cloths for a price which covered the entire capital with which I purchased both cloths besides four dirhams. Hence, this cloth now remains with only four dirhams of the capital amount outstanding. (Therefore, I have sold the second cloth to you for four dirhams.)”

Assisting People in Need

A woman once came to Imaam Abu Hanifah (rahimahullah) with a silken cloth and said to him, “Please sell it for me (as I am not experienced in trade. Hence, I wish you to assist me in correctly evaluating it and selling it to someone who wishes to purchase it from me).” Imaam Abu Hanifah (rahimahullah) asked the woman, “How much were you advised to sell the cloth for?” The woman replied, “One hundred.” Imaam Abu Hanifah (rahimahullah) remarked, “It is worth more than one hundred!”

Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) - Part Two

Written by

Title:

The title of Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) was ‘Zun-Noorain’ (the possessor of the two lights). ‘Two lights’ referred to the two blessed daughters of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), Hazrat Ruqayyah (radhiyallahu ‘anha) and Hazrat Ummu Kulthoom (radhiyallahu ‘anha).

Hazrat Hasan Basri (rahimahullah) has explained that Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) was given this title as he was the only person who had married two daughters of a Nabi (Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) married Hazrat Ummu Kulthoom (radhiyallahu ‘anha) after the demise of Hazrat Ruqayyah (radhiyallahu ‘anha)). (Siyar A’laam min Nubalaa 2/566/568)

Hazrat Khadijah (radhiyallahu ‘anha) went to Waraqah bin Nawfal and explained to him the incidents that transpired during the journey of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), the statement of the monk and the manner in which the angels were shading him. Waraqah remarked, “O Khadijah! If these incidents are true, then most certainly Muhammed is the prophet of this ummah. I am well aware that a Nabi will come to this ummah whom we are awaiting and whose arrival is imminent.”

After hearing of these incidents, the desire entered the heart of Hazrat Khadijah (radhiyallahu ‘anha) to marry Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam). Hence, two months and twenty five days after his arrival from the Syrian trade journey, she sent a proposal to Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam). After consulting his uncle, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) accepted this proposal.

Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) – Part One

Written by

Name:

Hazrat ‘Uthmaan bin ‘Affaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu)

Birth:

Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) was born six years after ‘Aam-ul-Feel (the Year of the Elephants i.e. the year in which Abrahah tried to destroy the Ka‘bah Shareef with elephants). (Isaabah 4/377)

When Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) returned from Syria, it was afternoon and two angels were shading him. When Hazrat Khadijah (radhiyallahu ‘anha), who was on the upper floor, saw Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) coming in this extraordinary state, she showed the women who were present the very same sight at which they all began to marvel and express astonishment.

Hazrat ‘Abdullah (rahimahullah), the son of Imaam Ahmed (rahimahullah), narrates the following, “I saw my father take a strand from the blessed hair of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), place it on his lips and kiss it. I also remember seeing him place it on his eyes, and place it in water after which he drank the water, hoping for shifaa (cure and blessings).”
