Hadeeth (186)
عن أسامة بن شريك قال شهدت الأعراب يسألون النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم أعلينا حرج في كذا أعلينا حرج في كذا فقال لهم عباد الله وضع الله الحرج إلا من اقترض من عرض أخيه شيئا فذاك الذي حرج فقالوا يا رسول الله هل علينا جناح أن لا نتداوى قال تداووا عباد الله فإن الله سبحانه لم يضع داء إلا وضع معه شفاء إلا الهرم قالوا يا رسول الله ما خير ما أعطي العبد قال خلق حسن ( سنن ابن ماجة #3427 )
Hazrat Usaamah bin Shareek (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) narrates that he once witnessed some of the Bedouin asking Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), “Is there any problem in us doing such-and-such an action? Is there any problem in us doing such-and-such an action?”Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) replied, “O servants of Allah! Allah Ta‘ala has permitted you to do such deeds and has not placed sin in them. However, the one who attacks the honor of his brother in any way, then certainly that is great sin.” The Bedouin thereafter asked, “O Rasul of Allah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam)! Will we be sinful if we do not adopt medical treatment?” Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) replied, “Adopt medical treatment, o servants of Allah! For indeed, besides old age, Allah Ta‘ala has not placed any sickness without a cure.” The Bedouin then asked, “O Rasul of Allah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam)! What is the best favor that a servant can be blessed with (by Allah Ta‘ala)?” Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) replied, “Excellent character”.
عن أنس بن مالك قال قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم من خرج في طلب العلم فهو في سبيل الله حتى يرجع (سنن الترمذي #2647)
Hazrat Anas bin Maalik (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) narrates that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “Whoever goes out in search of deeni knowledge is in the path of Allah Ta‘ala until he returns.”
عن بن عباس رضي الله عنهما قال : قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم لرجل وهو يعظه اغتنم خمسا قبل خمس شبابك قبل هرمك وصحتك قبل سقمك وغناءك قبل فقرك وفراغك قبل شغلك وحياتك قبل موتك (حاكم #7846)
Hazrat ibn ‘Abbaas (radhiyallahu ‘anhuma) narrates that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) once told a person while advising him, “Value five (bounties of Allah Ta‘ala) before five (things overcome you); your youth before you become old, your good health before you become sick, your wealth before you become poor, your leisure before you become occupied and your life before you die.”
In this Hadith, we are advised to value and appreciate the five most valuable bounties of Allah Ta‘ala viz. (1) youth (2) good health (3) wealth (4) leisure (5) life. Generally, most people are unmindful concerning these favors and do not express gratitude and thanks to Allah Ta‘ala for them. It is only when one is faced with hardship and difficulty, or a sudden tragedy strikes and one loses his health, wealth, etc, that he realizes the true value of these great bounties of Allah Ta‘ala.
عن عبد الله بن عمرو أن النبي صلى الله عليه و سلم قال : بلغوا عني ولو آية ( صحيح البخاري #3274 )
Hazrat ‘Abdullah bin ‘Amr (radhiyallahu ‘anhuma) narrates that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “Convey (the knowledge of deen) from me, even if it be just a single verse.”
The knowledge of Deen which a person acquires is, in reality, an amaanah (a trust). It is thus our responsibility to practice on this knowledge and to also propagate it to others.
As far as the fundamentals of Deen and those issues of halaal and haraam are concerned which are clear to one and all, then after acquiring the correct understanding of them, each and every Muslim should pass them on to others.
However, as far as technical aspects of Deen are concerned, they require an in depth study of Deen and its various sciences in order to be able to correctly comprehend them and are thus generally understood by highly qualified ‘Ulamaa. These intricate sciences and complex masaa’il which are not completely and adequately understood by the ordinary layman should therefore be left for the ‘Ulamaa to explain to the public.
