12. After completing your dua, say aameen.
Abu Musabbih Al-Maqraaiy relates: On one occasion, we were seated by Abu Zuhair An-Numairi (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) who was from among the Sahaabah (radhiyallahu ‘anhum). He was most eloquent in speech. When anyone among us used to engage in dua, he would say, “Seal the dua with aameen, for aameen is like a stamp on the paper.” He then said further, “Should I not inform you regarding this? One night, we came out with Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) and came across a person who was fervently engaged in dua. Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) stopped to listen to him and said, ‘If he seals his dua, he will make Jannah binding for him.’ One of the people asked, ‘How should he seal it (his dua)?’ Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) replied, ‘He should seal it with aameen? If he seals it with aameen, he has made Jannah binding for him.’ The one who had asked Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) went up to the person and said, ‘O so and so, seal your dua with aameen and accept the glad tidings (of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam)).’” [1]
1. Commence the dua by praising Allah Ta‘ala and then reciting durood upon Hazrat Nabi (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam). Thereafter, in all humility and respect, present your needs before Allah Ta‘ala.
Hazrat Fadhaalah bin Ubaid (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that on one occasion, Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) was seated in the musjid when a person entered the musjid and performed salaah. He then made dua saying, “O Allah, forgive me and have mercy on me.” Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) addressed him saying, “O musalli, you have hastened (in your dua). After performing salaah, when you sit (to engage in dua), then (first) praise Allah Ta‘ala with praises that befit His majesty and honour. Thereafter, recite durood upon me, and then call upon Allah Ta‘ala and ask Him of your needs.” Subsequently, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) had seen another person perform salaah. After performing salaah, he engaged in dua. He first praised Allah Ta‘ala and thereafter recited durood upon Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam). Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) addressed him saying, “O musalli, call upon Allah Ta‘ala and ask Him for your needs, your dua will be answered (as you have abided by the etiquettes of dua).” [1]
At the Time of Azaan and when the Two Armies Meet in Battle
Hazrat Sahl bin Sa’d (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “There are two times when duas are not rejected or very seldom will duas made at these two times not be accepted; at the time of the azaan and when the both armies meet in battle.” [1]
The Parents, the Traveller and the Oppressed
Hazrat Abu Hurairah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “Three duas are such that they will undoubtedly gain acceptance; the dua of the father (or mother, in regard to their child), the dua of the musaafir (traveller) and the dua of the oppressed.” [1]
The Fasting Person and the Just Ruler
Hazrat Abu Hurairah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “Three people are such that their dua will not be rejected; the fasting person until he breaks his fast, the just ruler, and the dua of the oppressed person which Allah Ta‘ala raises above the clouds, and for which the doors of the heavens are opened, and Allah Ta‘ala says, ‘By My honour! I will definitely assist you – even if it is after some time!’” [2]
Dua is a means through which a servant draws from the unlimited treasures of Allah Ta‘ala. There are numerous virtues reported in the Mubaarak Ahaadith for those who make dua. Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said that dua is the essence of all ibaadah. [1]
In another Hadith, Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) mentioned that Allah Ta‘ala becomes pleased with the servant who makes dua and begs Him for his needs, [2] and Allah Ta‘ala becomes displeased with the servant who does not turn to Him in dua, begging Him for his needs. [3]
Sunnats and Aadaab of Reciting the Quraan Majeed - Part Two
Written by user213. Recite the Quraan Majeed in a beautiful voice. However, you should refrain from imitating the tunes and styles of the singers, etc. [1]
Hazrat Baraa bin Aazib (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “Beautify (your recitation of) the Quraan Majeed through your voices (through reciting it in a beautiful voice).” [2]
Sunnats and Aadaab of Reciting the Quraan Majeed - Part One
Written by user21. Ensure that your mouth is clean before reciting the Quraan Majeed. [1]
It is reported that Hazrat Ali (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) said, “Indeed your mouths are pathways for the Quraan Majeed (i.e. your mouths are used to recite the Quraan Majeed). Hence, cleanse your mouths through using the miswaak.” [2]
2. Hold the Quraan Majeed with utmost respect and always keep it on a high place with honour. Do not place the Quraan Majeed on the floor or in any place where it will not be respected. [3]
A Light in the World and Treasure in the Hereafter
Hazrat Abu Zar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports, “I once asked Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), ‘O Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), please give me some advice.’ Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) replied, ‘Hold firm onto taqwa, for it is the head (highest) of all deeds.’ I then said, ‘O Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), please give me more advice.” Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, ‘Hold firm onto the recitation of the Qur’aan Majeed, for it is a light for you in this world and a treasure for you in the Hereafter.’” [1]
Allah Ta‘ala has blessed the Ummah of Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) with an ocean that has no shores. This ocean is filled with pearls, emeralds, rubies and every form of priceless treasure. The more one draws from this ocean, the more one will benefit. This ocean will never deplete but will continue to bless one in this world and the next. This shoreless ocean is the Quraan Majeed.
The Quraan Majeed is the greatest bounty of Allah Ta‘ala on this Ummah. It is the Divine speech of Allah Ta‘ala to His creation and there is no bounty in the world that can equal it.
As long as the Ummah firmly holds onto the Quraan Majeed and fulfill its rights, it will be a source of light for them in this world and in the grave. Furthermore, on the Day of Qiyaamah, it will accompany them on the plains of Resurrection until it enters them into Paradise.
Sunnats of Sitting in a Deeni Discourse – Part Eleven
Written by user218. It is waajib (compulsory) for one to remain silent while the khutbah is being delivered e.g. Jumu‘ah, nikaah, eid, etc. If one speaks during the khutbah, one will be sinful.[1]
Hazrat ibnu ‘Abbaas (radhiyallahu ‘anhuma) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “The example of the one who speaks on the day of Jum‘uah while the Imaam delivers the khutbah is like that of a donkey which carries a load of books on its back (i.e. just as a donkey carrying a load of Deeni books on its back does not benefit from the Deeni books, similarly the one who speaks while the khutbah is in progress will not receive any benefit). And the one who asks another to remain silent (while the khutbah is being delivered), there is no Jumu‘ah for him (i.e. even though he is advising another to remain silent during the khutbah, he himself has committed a sin due to speaking while the khutbah is in progress).”

16. Upon the completion of the gathering, one should recite:
سُبْحَانَكَ اللّٰهُمَّ وَبِحَمْدِكَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَّا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ وَأَتُوْبُ إِلَيْكَ
Glory be to You, O Allah, with all Praise; I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship except You, I seek Your forgiveness and turn to You in repentance.
17. If one wishes to hear a Deeni discourse over a CD, radio, receiver etc. then it is important for one to first find out the reliability of the person who had delivered the discourse as well as the subject matter that had been discussed. Not exercising caution in this regard leads to confusion being created in one’s Deen.
قال محمد بن سيرين رحمه الله: إن هذا العلم دين فانظروا عمن تأخذون دينكم (صحيح مسلم باب بيان أن الإسناد من الدين الخ، شمائل الترمذي)
Hazrat Muhammed bin Seereen (rahimahullah) had stated, “Indeed this knowledge is your Deen, so be careful from whom you acquire your Deen.”
15. When the blessed name of Hazrat Nabi (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) is mentioned in the Deeni discourse or in any gathering, then it is waajib (compulsory) for one to recite durood upon Nabi (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam). Thereafter, whenever the blessed name of Nabi (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) is taken, it is mustahab (preferable) to recite durood. [1]
