Durood (71)

Hazrat Anas (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “Hazrat Jibreel (‘alaihis salaam) just departed from me now. He had come to inform me that Allah Ta‘ala said, ‘There is no muslim on the earth who recites durood upon you (i.e. on Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam)) once, except that I and My angels send durood upon him (i.e I shower ten mercies on him and my angels seek forgiveness for him ten times).’ Thus recite abundant durood upon me on the day of Jumu‘ah, and when you recite durood upon me, then send salutations upon the Ambiyaa (‘alaihimus salaam), as I am a Nabi among the Ambiyaa (‘alaihimus salaam).”

In this Hadith, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) has taught us that whenever we send durood on him, we should send salutations on the Ambiyaa (‘alaihimus salaam) as well. Hence, when we recite durood on Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), we should add the following at the end:

And on the Ambiyaa (‘alaihimus salaam) as well

The Reward of Freeing Ten Slaves

Written by

Hazrat Baraa’ bin ‘Aazib (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “Whoever recites durood upon me once, then in lieu of the durood, Allah Ta‘ala will record for him ten good deeds, He will erase from him ten sins, He will raise him by ten stages, and the durood will be a means of him earning the reward of setting free ten slaves.”

Reciting Durood when Meeting a Muslim Brother

Hazrat Anas bin Maalik (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “When two muslims who love one another (for the sake of Allah Ta‘ala) meet each other and send durood (salutations) upon Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), then before they depart from one another, their future and past (minor) sins are forgiven.”

Reciting Durood One Hundred Times Daily

Written by

Hazrat Jaabir (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “Whoever recites durood (sends salutations) upon me one hundred times daily, Allah Ta‘ala will fulfill one hundred of his needs; seventy of the hereafter and thirty of this world.”

Reciting Durood before Making Du‘aa

Written by

Hazrat ‘Abdullah bin Mas’ood (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) has mentioned, “When any of you intends to make du‘aa to Allah Ta‘ala, then he should commence his du‘aa by praising and glorifying Allah Ta‘ala with praises that are befitting His majesty and honour. He should then send durood (salutations) upon Nabi (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), and he should thereafter make du‘aa, as (through following this method of making du‘aa,) it is more likely that he will be successful (in his du‘aa being answered).”

The Harm of Neglecting to Recite Durood

Written by

Hazrat Husain bin ‘Ali (radhiyallahu ‘anhuma) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “The one in whose presence my name is mentioned, and he does not send salutations upon me, he has left out an action which leads to Jannah.”

Three Unfortunate People

Hazrat Ka’b bin ‘Ujrah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports the following: On one occasion, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) addressed the Sahaabah (radhiyallahu ‘anhum) saying, “Come close to the mimbar.” When we came close, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) ascended the mimbar. When he ascended the first step, he said “Aameen”. When he ascended the second step, he said “Aameen”. When he ascended the third step, he said “Aameen”. (When he descended from the mimbar after delivering the khutbah,) The Sahaabah (radhiyallahu ‘anhum) enquired, “O Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam)! We heard you mention something today that we did not hear from you previously (i.e. Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) saying ‘Aameen’ thrice while ascending the mimbar).” Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “When I ascended the first step of the mimbar, Hazrat Jibra’eel (‘alaihis salaam) appeared before me and said, “Woe to him who witnessed the blessed month of Ramadhaan and let it pass without gaining forgiveness (i.e. he did not fulfill the rights of this month).” Upon that, I said ‘Aameen’. (When I ascended the second step of the mimbar,) he said, “Woe to him in whose presence your name is mentioned and he does not send salutations upon you.” I replied, ‘Aameen’. (When I ascended the third step of the mimbar,) he said, “Woe to that person in whose presence both or one of his parents attain old age and (through failing to serve them and fulfill their rights,) they do not become the means of him entering Jannah.” I said ‘Aameen’ (i.e. due to not serving them, he is deprived of entry into Jannah).”

Hazrat Anas bin Maalik (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “Whoever sends salutations upon me once, his salutations reach me (via the angels) and I make du‘aa for him. Over and above that, ten virtues are recorded for him.”

Recite Durood Wherever You May Be

Written by

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “Do not make your homes into graveyards (i.e. enliven your homes with righteous a’maal e.g. salaah, reciting the Qur’aan Majeed, etc, so that your homes do not become like the graveyard which is void of a’maal), and do not make my grave a place of festivity, and recite durood upon me, for certainly your durood reaches me (through the malaa’ikah) from wherever you may be.”
