Acquiring the Knowledge of Hadith from a Young Age
Muhammed bin Abi Haatim (rahimahullah) narrates the following:
I once asked Imaam Bukhaari (rahimahullah), “How did you commence memorizing Hadith?” Imaam Bukhaari (rahimahullah) replied, “I was inspired by Allah Ta‘ala to commence memorizing the blessed Ahaadith of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) when I started acquiring ‘ilm at the elementary madrasah.” I asked him, “What was your age at the time?” He replied, “I was ten years old, or perhaps even younger.”
Hazrat Thaabit bin Ahmed, Abul Qaasim Baghdadi (rahimahullah), relates that he once saw a mu’azzin calling out the azaan for fajr salaah in Musjid-un-Nabawi.
When the mu’azzin called out, “Assalaatu khairum minan nowm” (indeed salaah is better than sleep), a person came up to him and gave him a hard slap. The mu’azzin began to weep and exclaimed, “O Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam)! Look at what is being done to me in your mubaarak presence!”
The Hijrah of Hazrat ‘Ali (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) – continued
On the night when the disbelievers intended killing Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), they surrounded his house and remained outside, waiting for him to emerge.
Initially, the disbelievers intended to climb over the wall and enter the house to assassinate Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam). However, they heard a voice from within the house and thought it to be the voice of a woman. Hence, according to the custom of the Arabs at that time, they felt it disrespectful to enter the home and kill a man before his womenfolk. Thus, they decided that they would wait outside the house and kill Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) when he emerged. (Rowdh-ul-Unf 2/309)
The Inspirational Sermon of Hazrat Ja’far (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) in the Court of Najaashi
Written by user2Hazrat Ja’far (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) addressed Najaashi and said:
“O Emperor! Prior to the advent of Islam, we were all ignorant and unaware of the true path. We would worship idols and consume carrion. We were involved in various types of shameless actions. We would sever family ties and ill-treat our neighbors. The strong among us would oppress and take advantage of the weak.
The Mother of Imaam Bukhaari (rahimahullah)
During his childhood, Imaam Bukhaari (rahimahullah) lost his eyesight and became blind. The mother of Imaam Bukhaari (rahimahullah) continued to turn to Allah Ta‘ala in du‘aa, begging Him to cure her son and restore his eyesight.
One night, when she went to sleep, she had a dream. In the dream, she saw Hazrat Nabi Ebrahim (‘alaihis salaam). Nabi Ebrahim (‘alaihis salaam) addressed her and said, “Allah Ta‘ala has cured your son and restored his eyesight on account of the excessive du‘aa that you made for him.”
The following morning, when Imaam Bukhaari (rahimahullah) awoke, his eyesight had been restored and he could see once again.

Hazrat Nabi Aadam (‘alaihis salaam) was a prophet of Allah Ta‘ala. He was the first human being to be created, and hence he is the father of all mankind.
Before creating Nabi Aadam (‘alaihis salaam), Allah Ta‘ala had created the Jinn and they were residing in the earth. After some time, they began to spread corruption in the earth and kill one another. Allah Ta‘ala then sent angels who fought these jinn and exiled them to the islands. (Tafseer Ibnu Katheer 1/127)
The Hijrah of Hazrat ‘Ali (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) - continued
When Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) instructed Hazrat ‘Ali (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) to spend the night in his home, then despite the fact that his life was in danger, he wholeheartedly submitted and fulfilled the instruction of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam).
In this manner, Hazrat ‘Ali (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) was prepared to sacrifice his own life for the sake of saving the blessed life of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam).
When the Sahaabah (radhiyallahu ‘anhum) entered the royal court, they sufficed on making salaam and did not prostrate before the Emperor (as was the norm).
The royal courtiers were extremely displeased by the Sahaabah (radhiyallahu ‘anhum) conducting in this manner. Hence, they immediately questioned the Sahaabah (radhiyallahu ‘anhum) and asked, “Why did you not prostrate before the Emperor?” According to another narration, the Emperor himself asked them why they did not prostrate before him.

Sheikh Ahmed Muhammed Sufi (rahimahullah) says:
Once, I wandered around the desert for about thirteen months, suffering such great hunger and thirst that my skin dried out. In that condition of need, I reached Madinah Munawwarah.
On arriving in Madinah Munawwarah, I first greeted Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) and his two companions, Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddeeq (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) and Hazrat Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu). Afterwards, I fell asleep.

The Hijrah of Hazrat ‘Ali (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) to Madinah Munawwarah
When the second pledge of ‘Aqabah took place, the Ansaar requested Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) to come and live in Madinah Munawwarah, and they promised to support Islam and protect Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam).
It was after this pledge that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) instructed the Sahaabah (radhiyallahu ‘anhum) to perform hijrah to Madinah Munwwarah.
Accordingly, all the Sahaabah (radhiyallahu ‘anhum) who were able to perform hijrah left Makkah Mukarramah and moved to Madinah Munawwarah, until only Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) and Hazrat ‘Ali (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) remained with Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) in Makkah Mukarramah, apart from those weak Sahaabah (radhiyallahu ‘anhum) who were unable to perform hijrah, due to being held back by the kuffaar of Makkah.
‘Amr bin ‘Aas and ‘Abdullah bin Abi Rabee‘ah were extremely apprehensive of the Emperor summoning the Sahaabah (radhiyallahu ‘anhum), questioning them and hearing what they had to say. We can well imagine why they were apprehensive and averse to the Emperor questioning and speaking to the Sahaabah (radhiyallahu ‘anhum) and why they wanted the Emperor to hand them over without any form of investigation and discussion.
The reason for ‘Amr bin ‘Aas and ‘Abdullah bin Abi Rabee‘ah being apprehensive is quite obvious – they knew well that that the moment the truth left the tongues of the Sahaabah (radhiyallahu ‘anhum), it would entrench itself into the heart of the Emperor.
Hazrat Abu Bakr ibnul-Muqri (rahimahullah) reports the following incident:
Imaam Tabraani (rahimahullah), Hazrat Abu Sheikh (rahimahullah) and I were once together in Madinah Munawwarah. We could not find anything to eat. We were suffering from hunger and used to fast for days on end.
One evening, at the time of Esha, I went to the blessed grave of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) and said, “O Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), we are extremely hungry.” After returning from the Rowdhah Mubaarak, Imaam Tabraani (rahimahullah) said to me, “Sit! Food shall either come to us or we shall die.” Thus, Hazrat Abu Sheikh (rahimahullah) and I waited while Imaam Tabraani (rahimahullah) remained seated, deep in thought.
There was once a man from Khurasaan who used to perform Haj annually. After performing Haj, he would visit Madinah Munawwarah. On coming to Madinah Munwwarah, it was his habit to visit Hazrat Sayyid Taahir ‘Alawi (rahimahullah) and present him with gifts.
Once, someone from Madinah Munawwarah said to the Khurasaani, “Whatever you give to Sayyid Taahir (rahimahullah) is being wasted by him and is being spent for sinful purposes.” For this reason, when he came to Madinah Munawwarah the following year, he did not give him any gifts. Likewise, when he came the next year as well, he again gave him nothing and instead distributed his gifts among the poor of Madinah Munawwarah.
