The Investment of Sadaqah

Written by

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) narrates that Rasululah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “Whoever gives sadaqah (charity) equal to a date from pure wealth – and Allah only accepts that which is pure – then Allah accepts it with His right hand, and thereafter protects it (and allows it to grow) for the one who gave it, just as one of you nurtures and takes care of his young foal (until it grows up into a fully developed horse), until his charity becomes like a mountain.”

Note: Allah Ta‘ala is unique in His being and His attributes and there is nothing that can be compared to Him. Allah Ta‘ala does not have a body and limbs as the creation has. However, in this Hadith, ‘right hand of Allah’ is mentioned. Generally, when something is appreciated and valued, it is received with the right hand. Hence, the ‘right hand of Allah Ta‘ala’ mentioned in this Hadith is in actual fact an expression to show the appreciation and value with which Allah Ta‘ala accepts this charity.

Honesty and Imaan

Hazrat Anas (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) said,“Whenever Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) delivered a khutbah to us, he said, ‘There is no Imaan for the one who does not possess the quality of trustworthiness (and honesty), and there is no Deen for the one who does not fulfill his pledges (and promises).’”

Hazrat ‘Aa'ishah (radhiyallahu ‘anha) narrates that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “The salaah performed after making miswaak is seventy times greater than the salaah performed without making miswaak.”

A Believer Always Gains

Written by

Hazrat Suhaib (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “How astonishing is the condition of a believer! There is good for him in every situation, and this is exclusive for a believer. If prosperity and favorable conditions prevail over him, he expresses gratitude, and this is good for him. And if adversity and unfavorable conditions befall him, he adopts Sabr (patience), and this is good for him.”

Etiquette of Salaam

Written by

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) narrates that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “The one who is riding a conveyance should make salaam to the one who is on foot, and the one who is on foot should make salaam to the one who is seated, and the group who are less in number should make salaam to the group who are more in number.”

Note: Though this is the etiquette of Salaam, each person should endeavor to make Salaam first as this is more rewarding, creates more love in the hearts and is more distant from pride. The Hadith mentions that the one who makes Salaam first receives greater reward and making Salaam first is a sign of being free from pride. In one Hadith, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) mentioned to the Sahaabah (radhiyallahu ‘anhum), “You will not enter Jannah until you have perfect Imaan, and you will not have perfect Imaan until you have love for one another. Should I not show you an action, which if you carry it out, love will be engendered in your hearts? Make Salaam a common practice among yourselves (whenever you meet each other).”

The Reward of Salaam

Written by

Hazrat ‘Imraan bin Husain (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that a man once came to Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) and greeted him saying, “Assalaamu ‘alaikum”. After replying to his salaam, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “Ten (i.e. he has earned ten rewards)”. Thereafter, another man came and greeted Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) saying, “Assalaamu ‘alaikum warahmatullah”. After replying to his salaam, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “Twenty (i.e. he has earned twenty rewards)”. Finally, a third person came to Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) and greeted him saying, “Assalaamu ‘alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakaatuh”. After replying to his salaam, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “Thirty (i.e. he has earned thirty rewards)”.

The Mercy of Allah Ta‘ala

Written by

Hazrat Jundub (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) has mentioned that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) narrated the following: A man (from among the previous ummats) said, “By Allah! Allah Ta‘ala will not forgive so-and-so person!” Allah Ta‘ala then said, “Who is this person who takes an oath by My name that I will not forgive so-and-so person? Indeed I have forgiven that person, and I have nullified all your good deeds (i.e. the good deeds of the one who had taken such an oath regarding Allah Ta‘ala not forgiving a certain person).”

It has been narrated from Hazrat ‘Aa’ishah (radhiyallahu ‘anha), the respected wife of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “O ‘Aa’ishah (radhiyallahu ‘anha)! Allah Ta‘ala is most compassionate, and He grants for compassion and kindness that which He does not grant for harshness, and that which He does not grant for any other action besides compassion and kindness.”

It is reported from Hazrat Anas bin Maalik (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “Whoever meets his Muslim brother in the manner which pleases Allah Ta‘ala (i.e. displaying good conduct or sharing something with him), in order to please him, Allah Ta‘ala will please him (in exchange of pleasing his brother through his good conduct, deed, etc) on the Day of Qiyaamah.”

Sadaqah on Behalf of a Deceased

Written by

Hazrat ‘Aa’ishah (radhiyallahu ‘anha) narrates that a person asked Nabi (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), “My mother has indeed passed away suddenly (i.e. she did not experience any sickness prior to her death which indicated her death). I feel that if she had spoken (in her final stages), she would have (made a wasiyyat and) given sadaqah. Will she receive the reward of sadaqah if I give it on her behalf?” Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) replied, “Yes.”
