Du‘aa is Never Wasted

Written by

Hazrat Abu Sa‘eed Khudri (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “Whichever Muslim makes du‘aa to Allah Ta‘ala and supplicates to Him, and his du‘aa does not contain any sin (i.e. asking for anything which is impermissible) or the severance of family ties, Allah Ta‘ala will grant him one of three things. Either He will grant him what he had asked for (in this world), or He will keep the reward of the du‘aa for him in the Aakhirah, or He will avert a calamity from him.” The Sahaabah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) said, “In that case, we will engage in abundant du‘aa.” Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) replied, “Allah Ta‘ala is more than everything (i.e. His power and treasures are more than what you ask for).”

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports, “Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) once asked the Sahaabah (radhiyallahu ‘anhum), ‘Who will take these words from me and practice on them, as well as teach them to one who will then practice on them?’ I replied, ‘I will, O Rasul of Allah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam)!’ Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) thus held my hand and counted five (advices). Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, ‘Fear (falling into) that which is prohibited, and you will be among the greatest of worshippers (as abstaining from haraam is a fardh act and a means of acquiring the pleasure of Allah Ta‘ala). Be pleased with that which Allah Ta‘ala has allotted for you (as your sustenance), and you will be the wealthiest of people. Show your neighbor excellent conduct, and you will be a true believer. Love for others what you love for yourself, and you will be a true muslim. Do not laugh excessively, as excessive laughter kills (the noor of) the heart.”

Hazrat Sahl bin Sa’d (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “If the dunya was equal to the wing of a mosquito in the sight of Allah Ta‘ala, then Allah Ta‘ala would not have given a kaafir a sip of water to drink.”

Hazrat Nawfal bin Mu‘aawiyah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “The one who misses a salaah (unintentionally and mistakenly), it (i.e. his loss) is as if his family and wealth have been lost.”

Hazrat Abu Qataadah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “The best things a person can leave behind after his demise are three; a pious child who makes du‘aa for him, sadaqah-e-jaariyah (the good that one leaves behind) the benefit and reward of which continues to reach one after his demise, and the knowledge of Deen (which he imparted to people) that people continue to practice after his demise.”
