The following incident sheds light on the deep love that Hazrat ‘Ali (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) had for Hazrat ‘Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu). Hazrat ‘Ali (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) loved Hazrat ‘Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) to such an extent that he changed his intention of marrying his daughter to his nephew and instead married her to Hazrat ‘Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu).

Hazrat ‘Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) once proposed to the daughter of Hazrat ‘Ali and Hazrat Faatimah (radhiyallahu ‘anhuma), Hazrat Ummu Kulthoom. On receiving the proposal, Hazrat ‘Ali (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) initially excused himself, explaining that he had reserved his daughters for the marriage of the sons of his brother, Hazrat Ja‘far (radhiyallahu ‘anhu). Hazrat ‘Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) again requested him saying, “Marry her to me! By the oath of Allah, there is no person on the surface of the earth who will appreciate her nobility as I will.” Hearing this, Hazrat ‘Ali (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) agreed and married her to Hazrat ‘Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu).

Enveloped in the Mercy of Allah

Written by

Hazrat Anas (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “There is a group of angels of Allah Ta‘ala that continue to roam throughout the earth, searching for the gatherings of zikr (gatherings of the remembrance of Allah Ta‘ala). When they find such a gathering, they throng around it. Thereafter, they send the leading angels among them to the sky (to report to Allah Ta‘ala). These angels say to Allah Ta‘ala, “O our Lord! We have come to a group of Your servants who regard Your favors as a great bounty upon them, recite Your kitaab, send durood upon Your Nabi (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) and they beg You for their needs relating to the Aakhirah and dunya.” Allah Ta‘ala replies, “Envelop them in My mercy.” The angels then submit, “O Lord! Among them is so-and-so, who is a great sinner, and he only arrived at the ending of the gathering.” Allah Ta‘ala says, “Envelop all the people of this gathering (including him) in My mercy, for the people in this gathering are such that no person who joins them will be unfortunate and deprived of My mercy.”

Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) – Part Thirty Nine

Written by

Appointment as the Khalifah (continued)

After Hazrat Zubair (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) made his right over to Hazrat ‘Ali (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), Hazrat Sa’d (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) made his right over to Hazrat ‘Abdur Rahmaan bin ‘Auf (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), and Hazrat Talhah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) made his right over to Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), Hazrat ‘Abdur Rahmaan bin ‘Auf (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) also forewent his right, leaving the Khilaafah between Hazrat ‘Ali (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) and Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu).

It is reported from Hazrat ‘Abdullah bin ‘Abbaas (radhiyallahu ‘anhuma) that when Hazrat Abu Zar Ghifaari (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) learnt of the prophethood of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), he said to his brother, Hazrat Unais (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), “Go to Makkah Mukarramah and gather information about this man who claims that he is the messenger of Allah and that divine revelation descends upon him from the heavens. Also listen to his message.”

Steadfastness on the Shari‘ah

Written by

If Imaam Ahmed (rahimahullah) received an invitation to a da’wat, be it a wedding or some other da’wat, then he would accept the invitation. If due to some excuse, he was unable to attend the da’wat, he would excuse himself from attending. However, if he attended a da’wat and had seen wrong taking place e.g. the food being served in silver or gold utensils or any other wrong, he would immediately wake up and leave the da’wat.

Sunnats of Sitting in a Deeni Discourse – Part Four

Written by

7. Whilst the Deeni discourse is being delivered, one’s full attention should be focused towards the speaker. One should not be engaged in any other ibaadat e.g. making zikr, reciting the Qur’aan, etc.

8. One should endeavor to sit close to the speaker. Sitting close to the speaker will assist one in focusing better towards the speaker.

Hazrat ‘Ali (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) said, “Do not speak anything but good regarding Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) and the decision that he made concerning the Qur’aan. By Allah, he took this decision concerning the Qur’aan Majeed with the consensus of the Sahaabah (radhiyallahu ‘anhum).” (Saheeh Bukhaari #4987 and Fathul Baari vol. 9 pg. 16)

From this statement, it is clear that Hazrat ‘Ali (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) loved Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) and approved of his decision regarding the compilation of the Qur’aan. Hence, the Qur’aan which Hazrat ‘Ali (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) believed in and recited is the very same Qur’aan which the Ahl-us-Sunnah wal-Jamaa‘ah believe in and recite.

Hazrat ‘Amr bin ‘Abasah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) continued:

As soon as I heard of Rasulullah’s (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) appearance, I went to Makkah and met him in secret. On meeting him, I asked, “Who are you?” He replied, “I am the messenger of Allah.” I asked, “Did Allah Ta‘ala send you as the Nabi?” Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) replied in the affirmative. I then asked, “What message did Allah Ta‘ala send you with?” Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) replied, “Allah Ta‘ala sent me with the message that you should believe in Him as one god and not ascribe any partners to him. You should destroy idols and maintain family ties.”

Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) – Part Thirty Eight

Appointment as the Khalifah (continued)

After the janaazah salaah of Hazrat ‘Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) was performed, the members of the Shura went into the grave with Hazrat ‘Abdullah bin ‘Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) in order to lower the body of Hazrat ‘Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) into the grave. However, from the members of the Shura, Hazrat Talhah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) did not descend into the grave as he was not present on that occasion.
