Sunnats of Azaan and Iqaamah - Part Thirteen

Du‘aa after the azaan:

One should also recite the following Du‘aa:

أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لاَّ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لاَ شَرِيكَ لَهُ وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ رَضِيتُ باللهِ رَبًّا وَبِمُحَمَّدٍ رَسُولاً وَبِالْإِسْلَامِ دِينًا

I bear testimony that there is no god except Allah who is alone and there is no partner for Him. And Muhammed (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) is His servant and messenger. I am pleased with Allah as my lord, Muhammed (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) as a messenger and Islam as my religion.

N.B. This du‘aa should be recited after the azaan and after the muazzin calls out the shahaadatain.

عن سعد بن أبي وقاص عن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم أنه قال من قال حين يسمع المؤذن أشهد أن لا إله إلا الله وحده لا شريك له وأن محمدا عبده ورسوله رضيت بالله ربا وبمحمد رسولا وبالإسلام دينا غفر له ذنبه (صحيح مسلم #386)

Hazrat Sa’d bin Abi Waqqaas (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “Whoever recites the following du‘aa at the time of the azaan his (minor) sins will be forgiven.”

أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لاَّ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لاَ شَرِيكَ لَهُ وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ رَضِيتُ باللهِ رَبًّا وَبِمُحَمَّدٍ رَسُولاً وَبِالْإِسْلَامِ دِينًا
