The Quraishi cavalry – according to conflicting narrations - was either under the commandership of Abu Sufyaan bin Harb, or Ikrimah bin Abi Jahal or Mikraz bin Hafs.
Hazrat Miqdaad bin Amr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) and Hazrat Utbah bin Ghazwaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) who had earlier embraced Islam, but being in the clutches of the Quraish, were unable to migrate, also joined the Quraish in this expedition with the intention of breaking away from the Quraish and joining the Muslims at the first opportunity.
Accordingly, on this occasion, when the Muslims and the Quraish confronted one another, these two Sahaabah slipped away from the ranks of the kuffaar and joined the Muslims.
