Sufi Abu ‘Abdillah, Muhammed bin Abi Zar’ah (rahimahullah), mentions:

I once traveled to Makkah Mukarramah with my father and with Abu ‘Abdillah Khafif (rahimahullah). While in the Holy City, we suffered great hunger. Thereafter, in that poor condition, we traveled to Madinah Munawwarah. We slept without any food, on empty stomachs.

At that time, I was a small child and repeatedly complained to my father of the hunger that I was experiencing. Eventually, my father went to the blessed grave of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), and said, “O Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam)! Tonight, I am your guest!”

After saying these words, my father sat down in deep thought. After sitting like that for a short while, he raised his head, and began weeping for a little while. Thereafter, he began laughing.

When someone asked him why he was weeping and then laughing, he said, “I have seen Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), and he placed a few dirhams in my hand.” Saying this, he opened his hand and found the dihrams within.

Sufi Abu ‘Abdillah (rahimahullah) then says, “Allah Ta‘ala placed such barakah in those dirhams that they lasted us until we reached our hometown of Shiraz.”
