It is reported from Hazrat ‘Abdullah bin ‘Abbaas (radhiyallahu ‘anhuma) that when Hazrat Abu Zar Ghifaari (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) learnt of the prophethood of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), he said to his brother, Hazrat Unais (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), “Go to Makkah Mukarramah and gather information about this man who claims that he is the messenger of Allah and that divine revelation descends upon him from the heavens. Also listen to his message.”

Hazrat ‘Amr bin ‘Abasah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) continued:

As soon as I heard of Rasulullah’s (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) appearance, I went to Makkah and met him in secret. On meeting him, I asked, “Who are you?” He replied, “I am the messenger of Allah.” I asked, “Did Allah Ta‘ala send you as the Nabi?” Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) replied in the affirmative. I then asked, “What message did Allah Ta‘ala send you with?” Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) replied, “Allah Ta‘ala sent me with the message that you should believe in Him as one god and not ascribe any partners to him. You should destroy idols and maintain family ties.”

Hazrat ‘Amr bin ‘Abasah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) says:

From the very beginning, I disassociated myself from idol worship and I was completely averse to it. I understood and knew that idols could neither benefit nor harm and were mere pieces of stone.

On one occasion, I met a scholar from the Ahl-e-Kitaab (people of the scriptures i.e. Jews or Christians) and asked him which religion was the best and most virtuous. The scholar replied, “A man will soon appear in Makkah. His religion will be the best religion. He will invite people away from idolatry towards the oneness of Allah. If you happen to find him, ensure that you follow him.”

From that moment, the city of Makkah was constantly in my thoughts. I would enquire regarding the news of Makkah from every person going to Makkah or returning from it until I finally heard of Rasulullah’s (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) appearance.

Hazrat ‘Ammaar bin Yaasir (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) says:

Hazrat Suhaib bin Sinaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) and I had come to Daar-e-Arqam at the same time. We met at the door of Daar-e-Arqam, while Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) was inside, and asked each other what our intention for coming to see Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) was.

I replied, “I intend to go to Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) to listen to his message.” Hazrat Suhaib (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) expressed that he had the same intention. Both of us then entered Daar-e-Arqam where Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) presented the teachings of Islam to us and invited us to bring Imaan. Without any delay, we both accepted his invitation to Islam and were blessed with Imaan.

On the day after Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) accepted Islam, Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) brought the following luminaries to Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam):

Hazrat ‘Uthmaan bin Maz‘oon (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), Hazrat Abu ‘Ubaidah bin Jarraah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), Hazrat Abu Salamah bin ‘Abdil Asad (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) and Hazrat Arqam bin Arqam (radhiyallahu ‘anhu).

All of them embraced Islam together in one sitting.

Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) relates:

Not even a few days had passed when the respected daughter of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), Hazrat Ruqayyah (radhiyallahu ‘anha), came into my nikaah. Everyone was overjoyed and pleased with our nikaah. In this regard, my aunt, Su‘daa, recited the following poetry:

هدى الله عثمان الصيفي بقوله      فأرشده والله يهدي إلى الحق

فتابع بالرأي السديد محمدا      وكان ابن أروى لا يصد عن الحق

وأنكحه المبعوث إحدى بناته      فكان كبدر مازج الشمس في الأفق

فدى لك يا ابن الهاشميين مهجتي      فأنت أمين الله أرسلت للخلق

Allah has guided His fortunate servant ‘Uthmaan towards the path of guidance. Allah has blessed him with divine guidance and Allah alone guides those whom He wishes towards the truth.

After all, he is the son of Arwaa, and the son of Arwaa treaded on the path of truth and did not move away from it.

And the one sent as the Nabi of Allah (Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam)) handed one of his daughters to him in marriage. This union is such that it resembles the sun and the full moon combining on the horizon.

May my life be sacrificed for you, O son of the Banu Haashim (Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam))! You are the trustee of Allah over deen and you have been sent for the guidance of the entire creation.

Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) says:

While I was in conversation with Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), it so happened that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) passed by. Hazrat ‘Ali (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) was with him, and Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) had a cloth in his blessed hand. On seeing Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) stood and whispered something into his ear. Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) then came and sat with us, after which he turned to me and said, “O ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu)! Allah invites you to Jannah, so accept His invitation! I am the messenger of Allah Ta‘ala who has been deputed to you and the entire creation.”

Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) continued:

I responded, “O aunt! You are speaking of something which is such that I have never before heard its name in this city. I don’t understand.” Upon this, Su’daa elaborated:

محمد بن عبد اللّٰه رسول من عند اللّٰه جاء بتنزيل اللّٰه يدعو إلى اللّٰه قوله صلاح ودينه فلاح وأمره نجاح ما ينفع الصياح لو وقع الرماح وسلت الصفاح ومدت الرماح

Muhammed, the son of ‘Abdullah, is the Rasul (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) sent by Allah. He brought the message of Allah, inviting mankind towards Allah. His word is righteousness and piety, his deen is one of success and his affair is one of salvation. Calls and shouts made against him will be of no avail, even if the spears fall (against him), sides are struck and spears are wielded (against him).

Hazrat ‘Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) says:

I once entered my home and found my aunt (mother’s sister), Su’daa, sitting among the household. My aunt would engage in soothsaying. The moment she saw me, she said:

أبشر وحييت ثلاثا وترا      ثم ثلاثا وثلاثا أخرى

ثم بأخرى كي تتم عشرا     لقيت خيرا ووقيت شرا

نكحت والله حصانا زهرا    وأنت بكر ولقيت بكرا

Accept glad tidings and congratulations thrice, then thrice more, and then thrice more And then once more to complete ten. You have encountered goodness and have been saved from evil By Allah! You have married an extremely chaste and beautiful woman. You are a virgin and you have married a virgin.

Hazrat Khaalid (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) continued:

When my father learnt that I had embraced Islam, he beat me so severely that my head was wounded. He broke a stick on my head and said, “You are following Muhammed (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) who has opposed all the people! He speaks ill of our deities and depicts our forefathers as stupid and ignorant.” I responded, “By Allah! Muhammed (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) is absolutely true in what he is saying!”
