Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) would weep abundantly out of the fear of Allah Ta‘ala. Despite being a man of great composure (who was able to control his emotions), when reciting the Qur’aan Majeed, he was unable to hold back his tears. As much as he tried, he could not control his weeping. (This is the reason why those who listened to his recitation were overcome and could not control their hearts and emotions.)
When the leaders of the Quraish noticed this, they became anxious and worried, and immediately sent for Ibnud Daghinah. When he arrived, they complained to him saying, “On your request, we granted Abu Bakr amnesty. However, we granted him amnesty on the condition that he worships his Lord in private, in the confines of his home, and he should not worship his Lord publicly, nor should he perform salaah and recite the Qur’aan openly. Abu Bakr has now broken the condition by performing salaah and reciting the Qur’aan openly, due to which we fear that our women and children will become corrupt and influenced by him. Either you convince Abu Bakr to abide by the conditions which we laid down, or either you should withdraw the amnesty that you had granted to him. We give you these two options as we do not wish to violate the amnesty that you granted him.”
When Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) learnt of this, he said to Ibnud Daghinah, “I return your amnesty to you, and I am pleased and happy to remain in the protection and amnesty of Allah Ta‘ala.”
Note: The noble qualities of Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), as described by Ibnud Daghinah, were the exact same noble qualities with which Hazrat Khadijah (radhiyallahu ‘anha) described Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) at the time when he received prophethood (as mentioned under the chapter of the commencement of prophethood). This clearly indicates the great virtue and excellence of Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddeeq (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), as well as his close resemblance with Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), as the qualities of Siddeeqiyyat in him closely resembled the qualities of Nubuwwah (prophethood) in Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam).
