It is reported from Naafi’ (rahimahullah) that once Hazrat ‘Abdullah bin ‘Umar (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) gave him some clothing to wear. He was a slave of Hazrat ‘Abdullah bin ‘Umar (radiyallahu ‘anhuma). When Hazrat ‘Abdullah bin ‘Umar (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) entered the Musjid, he saw him performing salaah with one cloth covering his body. Hazrat ‘Abdullah bin ‘Umar (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) asked him (after salaah): “Don’t you have two pieces of clothing with which you can cover yourself during salaah?” He said: “Yes, I do have.” Hazrat ‘Abdullah bin ‘Umar (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) then told him: “Had I to seek assistance from you to assist me for some work and you had been with me behind the house, would you have worn the two pieces of clothing in my presence (and refrained from wearing one)?” He said: “Certainly (out of respect for you) I would have worn two pieces of clothing.” Hazrat ‘Abdullah bin ‘Umar (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) then asked him: “Is Allah Ta‘ala more worthy of being shown respect or people? Naafi' (rahimahullah) said: “Certainly Allah Ta‘ala is more worthy that respect be shown to him.” Hazrat ‘Abdullah bin ‘Umar (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) then narrated the Hadith from either his father or from Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam). Naafi’ (rahimahullah) says that I think it was from Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam). Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said: When anyone of you performs salaah, he should not dress like the Jews wearing one cloth tightened fastly around his body. The one who possesses two cloths, then he should use one as a lower garment and one as an upper garment. If one does not possess two cloths, then he should use the one as a lower garment and perform salaah.”
8. Make the intention of I’tikaaf for as long as one will remain in the Musjid.
Hazrat ibn ‘Abbaas (radhiallahu ‘anhuma) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said regarding the one sitting in I’tikaaf, “The mu’takif (the one remaining in the Musjid) stays away from committing sins, and every moment he receives the reward for carrying out the various forms of ibaadat that he would have been able to carry out had he not been in the state of I’tikaaf.”
9. Upon entering the Musjid, one should make salaam to those in the Musjid on condition that they are not engaged in any ibaadat. However, if people are engaged in salaah, then one should not make salaam.
10. Perform two rakaats of Tahiyyatul Musjid upon entering, as long as it is not the makrooh time for performing salaah.
Hazrat Abu Qataadah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “When anyone of you enters the Musjid, then he should perform two rakaats of salaah before he sits down.”
