A woman once came to Imaam Abu Hanifah (rahimahullah) with a silken cloth and said to him, “Please sell it for me (as I am not experienced in trade. Hence, I wish you to assist me in correctly evaluating it and selling it to someone who wishes to purchase it from me).” Imaam Abu Hanifah (rahimahullah) asked the woman, “How much were you advised to sell the cloth for?” The woman replied, “One hundred.” Imaam Abu Hanifah (rahimahullah) remarked, “It is worth more than one hundred!”

Imaam Abu Hanifah (rahimahullah) then asked her, “How much do you think it is worth?” The woman answered that she thought it was perhaps worth two hundred. Imaam Abu Hanifah (rahimahullah) advised her that it was worth more than that, until the price of the silken cloth reached four hundred, and only then did Imaam Abu Hanifah (rahimahullah) say, “This is a suitable price.” The woman was surprised (at the high price) and asked in astonishment, “Are you joking?”

Imaam Abu Hanifah (rahimahullah) instructed her to bring the person who she knew wished to purchase the cloth, so that he could sell it to the person on her behalf. When the man arrived, he purchased the cloth from Imaam Abu Hanifah (rahimahullah) for five hundred!
