When Ummu Jameel arrived in the musjid, Allah Ta‘ala placed a veil over her sight due to which only Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) was visible, and she was unable to see Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam). Ummu Jameel asked Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), “Where is your companion? I heard that he ridicules me and makes mocking remarks regarding me! By Allah! If I find him now, I will strike him with this stone! By Allah! I am an expert poetess!”
Saying this, she recited the following poetry:
مُذَمَّمًا عَصَيْنَا وَأَمْرَهُ أَبَيْنَا وَدِيْنَهُ قَلَيْنَا
Muzammam we defied, his instructions we rejected and his religion we despised
Due to her enmity and hatred, she would refer to Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) as ‘muzammam’ instead of Muhammed. Muzammam is the actually antonym of Muhammed. Muhammed means “the praised one”, while Muzammam means “the one who is despised”.
After speaking these words, Ummu Jameel departed.
