Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbaas (radhiyallahu ‘anhuma) reports that at that time, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) (addressing Makkah Muakarramah), mentioned:
On the occasion of the hijrah, when Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) was departing from Makkah Mukarramah, he ascended a small hill, looked towards Makkah Mukarramah and said:
وَاللّٰه إِنَّكِ لَخَيْرُ أَرْضِ اللّٰهِ وَأَحَبُّ أَرْضٍ إِلَى اللّٰهِ وَلَوْلَا أَنِّيْ أُخْرِجْتُ مِنْكِ مَا خَرَجْتُ
“By Allah! (O Makkah Mukarramah!) You are the best of Allah’s lands, and You are the most beloved of lands to Allah! If I was not expelled from you, I would never have left you!”
“O land of Makkah! How pure are you, and how beloved You are to me! If my people did not expel me from you, I would have not preferred any other land to live in besides you!”
Hazrat Abu Bakr’s (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) elder daughter, Hazrat Asmaa (radhiyallahu ‘anha), prepared their food provisions for the journey. As she was rushing, due to not finding any string to tie the provisions with, she tore a strip of cloth from her apron and used it as a string to tie the provisions. Hence, from that day onwards, she received the title of ‘Zaat-un-Nitaaqayn’ from Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) (‘Zaat-un-Nitaaqayn’ means the woman of the two strips of cloth. She was given this title because) she used one strip of cloth to tie the provisions, and the other strip of cloth to tie the mouth of the water skin.
Hazrat Abdullah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), the son of Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), was still young at that time. He would spend the entire day in Makkah Mukarramah, and in the night, he would come to the cave and give a report on the activities of the Quraish.
Hazrat Aamir bin Fuhayrah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) was the emancipated slave of Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu). He would graze goats during the day, and at the time of esha, he would come to the cave and present the goat’s milk to Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) and Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) to partake of.
Abdullah bin Uraiqit was hired as a guide to take them to Madinah Munawwarah via the route which was not well known. Although the guide, Abdullah bin Uraiqit, was a disbeliever, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) and Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) still used him as a guide as they trusted him and had confidence in him (to guide them correctly to their destination and not to betray them). They handed the camels to him and instructed him to meet them on the third day at Mount Thowr from where they would depart for Madinah Munawwarah.
