After the group of the Ansaar had pledged allegiance at the blessed hand of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said to them, “Nabi Musa (‘alaihis salaam) had selected twelve Nuqabaa (leaders) from the Bani Israa’eel. In the same way, as per the counsel of Hazrat Jibreel (‘alaihis salaam), I am also going to select twelve leaders from among you.”

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) then addressed these leaders saying, “You twelve are representatives of your people, just as the Hawaariyyeen were the representatives of Nabi Isa (‘alaihis salaam).”

The Names of the Nuqabaa

The twelve personalities whom Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) had selected as the Nuqabaa (leaders) over the Ansaar were the following:

1. Hazrat As’ad bin Zuraarah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu)

2.Hazrat Abdullah bin Rawaahah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu)

3. Hazrat Sa’d bin Rabee’ (radhiyallahu ‘anhu)

4. Hazrat Raafi’ bin Maalik (radhiyallahu ‘anhu)

5. Hazrat Abu Jaabir, Abdullah bin Amr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu)

6. Hazrat Baraa bin Ma’roor (radhiyallahu ‘anhu)

7. Hazrat Sa’d bin Ubaadah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu)

8. Hazrat Munzir bin Amr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu)

9. Hazrat Ubaadah bin Saamit (radhiyallahu ‘anhu)

10. Hazrar Usaid bin Hudhair (radhiyallahu ‘anhu)

11. Hazrat Sa’d bin Khaythamah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu)

12. Hazrat Rifaa’ah bin Abdil Munzir (radhiyallahu ‘anhu)

Note: Some Ulama have mentioned that Hazrat Abul Haytham bin Tayhaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) was the twelfth person instead of Hazrat Rifaa’ah bin Abdil Munzir (radhiyallahu ‘anhu).
