Hazrat Qataadah bin Nu’maan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) is an Ansaari Sahaabi of Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam). He was fortunate to participate in all the battles of Islam with Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), and he was among the Sahaabah who were skilled archers. He passed away in the year 23 AH during the khilaafah of Hazrat Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu). At the time of his demise, he was sixty five years old.

On the occasion of the battle of Uhud, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) handed a bow to Hazrat Qataadah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) to use in the battle. This bow had been given to Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) as a gift. Hazrat Qataadah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) took the bow, positioned himself in front of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), and continued firing arrows at the enemy, until eventually, one of the parts of the bow broke.
