Utbah and Abu Jahal were both standing and viewing this spectacle, where one by one, people were departing from Makkah Mukarramah, and the homes of Makkah were all becoming abandoned and desolate. Almost on the verge of tears, Utbah took a deep breath and wailed:
كُلُّ دَارٍ وَإِنۡ طَالَتۡ سَلَامَتُهَا يَوۡمًا سَتُدۡرِكُهَا النَّكۡبَآءُ وَالۡحُوۡبُ
“Every home, no matter how long it remains safe and homely, one day it is bound to turn into a house of sorrow and bereavement.”
Utbah then exclaimed, “All of this is because of our nephew (referring to Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam)) who has created disunity and division within our society.”
Thereafter, the following personalities performed hijrah: Hazrat Ukkaashah bin Mihsan, Hazrat Uqbah bin Wahab, Hazrat Shujaa’ bin Wahab, Hazrat Arbad bin Jumairah, Hazrat Munqiz bin Nabaatah, Hazrat Sa’eed bin Ruqaish, Hazrat Muhriz bin Nadhlah, Hazrat Yazeed bin Ruqaish, Hazrat Qays bin Jaabir, Hazrat Amr bin Mihsan, Hazrat Maalik bin Amr, Hazrat Safwaan bin Amr, Hazrat Thaqeef bin Amr, Hazrat Rabee’ah bin Aktham, Hazrat Zubair bin Ubaid, Hazrat Tamaam bin Ubaidah, Hazrat Sanjarah bin Ubaidah and Hazrat Muhammed bin Abdillah bin Jahsh (radhiyallahu ‘anhum).
Among the women who performed hijrah at this time were: Hazrat Zainab bint Jahsh, Hazrat Ummu Habeebah bint Jahsh, Hazrat Juzaamah bint Jandal, Hazrat Ummu Qays bint Mihsan, Hazrat Ummu Habeeb bint Thumaamah, Hazrat Aaminah bint Ruqaysh, Hazrat Sanjarah bint Tameem and Hazrat Hamnah bint Jahsh (radhiyallahu ‘anhunna).
These Sahaabah (radhiyallahu ‘anhum) were followed by Hazrat Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) and Hazrat Ayyaash bin Abi Rabee’ah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) who performed hijrah with twenty other Sahaabah (radhiyallahu ‘anhum) who were all mounted on conveyances.
Hazrat Hishaam bin Aas (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) had also intended to perform hijrah with Hazrat Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), but his people were opposed to his leaving and prevented him from departing.
