عن ابن عباس رضي الله عنهما قال: قال النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم: نعمتان مغبون فيهما كثير من الناس الصحة والفراغ (صحيح البخاري، الرقم: 6412)

Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbaas (radhiyallahu ‘anhuma) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “There are two bounties which are such that many people suffer a loss in regard to them; (these two bounties are) good health and free time (and available opportunities to do good deeds).”

Note:

In this Hadith, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) encourages and exhorts the ummah to value the two great bounties of Allah Ta‘ala - good health and free time.

When a person has been blessed with good health, then he will be able to worship Allah Ta‘ala more than a person who suffers from illness and sickness. Only after a person loses his health does he realize the value of good health. However, at that time, remorse will be of no avail, as he did not utilize his good health in carrying out good works and ibaadaat when he had the opportunity to do so.

Similarly, one will only value free time and available opportunities to carry out good deeds when one becomes preoccupied in worldly pursuits and engagements. At that time, such a person will regret the many opportunities he allowed to go by without taking benefit from them.

Hence, while a person has these two bounties, he should value and appreciate them by striving for the Hereafter. It should not be that one only realizes the value of these bounties after he loses them.
