The Happiness of Allah Ta‘ala at the Repentance of the Servant
Hazrat Haarith bin Suwaid (rahimahullah) reports that once, Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas’ood (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) narrated two Ahaadith. One Hadith was the Hadith of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), while the other was his own statement. Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas’ood (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) said, “Indeed a believer views his sins as though he is seated beneath a mountain and he fears that it can fall on him at any moment, and indeed a sinful person (not concerned about his deen) views his sins as though it is a fly which passes by his nose (i.e. he considers it to be trivial and insignificant). He thus casually swats at it with his hand.” While narrating this Hadith, one of the narrators, Abu Shihaab (rahimahullah), explained the gesture of Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas’ood (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) by him waving his hand above his nose.
