Acquiring the Knowledge of Hadith from a Young Age
Muhammed bin Abi Haatim (rahimahullah) narrates the following:
I once asked Imaam Bukhaari (rahimahullah), “How did you commence memorizing Hadith?” Imaam Bukhaari (rahimahullah) replied, “I was inspired by Allah Ta‘ala to commence memorizing the blessed Ahaadith of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) when I started acquiring ‘ilm at the elementary madrasah.” I asked him, “What was your age at the time?” He replied, “I was ten years old, or perhaps even younger.”
The Mother of Imaam Bukhaari (rahimahullah)
During his childhood, Imaam Bukhaari (rahimahullah) lost his eyesight and became blind. The mother of Imaam Bukhaari (rahimahullah) continued to turn to Allah Ta‘ala in du‘aa, begging Him to cure her son and restore his eyesight.
One night, when she went to sleep, she had a dream. In the dream, she saw Hazrat Nabi Ebrahim (‘alaihis salaam). Nabi Ebrahim (‘alaihis salaam) addressed her and said, “Allah Ta‘ala has cured your son and restored his eyesight on account of the excessive du‘aa that you made for him.”
The following morning, when Imaam Bukhaari (rahimahullah) awoke, his eyesight had been restored and he could see once again.
