Nabi Aadam (‘alaihis salaam) Sneezing when the Soul was Blown into Him
In another narration, it is reported that when Allah Ta‘ala blew the rooh (soul) into Nabi Aadam (‘alaihis salaam), then the soul first entered his eyes and nose. As the soul entered the eyes and nose of Nabi Aadam (‘alaihis salaam), he sneezed. Allah Ta‘ala then inspired Nabi Aadam (‘alaihis salaam) to recite “Alhamdulillah”. Allah Ta‘ala replied to his sneeze by saying, “Your Rabb has shown mercy to you, O Aadam.” (Sunan Tirmizi #3368 and Majma’uz Zawaa’id #13747)
In the Mubaarak Hadith, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) has taught us that when a person sneezes and he recites “Alhamdulillah”, then the person who hears him sneeze should reply to his sneeze by saying, “Yarhamukallah (may Allah Ta‘ala shower His special mercy upon you).” This sunnah is in compliance to the response which Allah Ta‘ala gave to Nabi Aadam (‘alaihis salaam) when he sneezed for the first time when the soul was blown into him.
