When Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) met Allah Ta‘ala, then on this great occasion, Allah Ta‘ala conversed with him directly and bestowed three gifts upon him. The first gift was the five daily salaah.

The second gift was the concluding verses of Surah Baqarah which include mention of the complete mercy, kindness and compassion of Allah Ta‘ala upon this ummah, together with the ease, concession, overlooking faults and forgiveness with which Allah Ta‘ala has favored this ummah, and the assistance and victory against the disbelievers that the ummah will receive from Allah Ta‘ala.

These aspects are mentioned in these verses in the form of du‘aas, thus teaching and encouraging the ummah to make these du‘aas to Allah Ta‘ala. In this is an indication that it is as though Allah Ta‘ala is saying, “If you make these du‘aas which are mentioned at the end of Surah Baqarah and beg from Us, then We will answer all these du‘aas of yours.”

If You did not intend to bestow upon us, from the ocean of Your grace, that which we desire and seek, then You would not have taught us how to beg from You

The third gift bestowed upon Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasllam) was that Allah Ta‘ala will forgive the major sins of any ummati who does not ascribe partners with Him.

In other words, Allah Ta‘ala will not condemn the one who commits major sins to remain in Jahannum forever, as the disbelievers remain in Jahannum forever. Rather, some of these sinners will gain forgiveness through the intercession of the Ambiyaa (‘alaihimus salaam). Others will be forgiven due to the intercession of the noble angels, while others will be forgiven solely by the mercy and grace of Allah Ta‘ala. Any person whose heart contains even an iota of imaan will eventually be released from Jahannam.
