6. Whenever the opportunity arises to visit a Muslim who has fallen ill, do so even though the sick may not be from one’s family or friends.

Hazrat Anas (radhiallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said: “The one who makes a perfect wudhu (i.e. through fulfilling all the sunan and mustahabbaat of wudhu) and sets out to visit his sick Muslim brother with the hope of receiving the reward for visiting the sick, such a person will be saved from Jahannum the distance of seventy years.”

7. When visiting the sick one should recite the following duaa:

There is no need to worry, Insha Allah through this sickness you will be cleansed and purified. (i.e. There is absolutely no need for you to worry or fear. You are just going through a cleansing process. Spiritually you are been cleansed from your sins and physically your body is being rid of the toxins and the harmful effects. Hence, when this sickness has come to you as a mercy in disguise from the side of Allah Ta’ala, there is no need for you to worry and grieve).

One may also recite the following duaa seven times:

I beseech Allah Ta‘ala, the Almighty, the Lord of the great throne, to cure you.

Hazrat ibn ‘Abbaas (radhiallahu ‘anhuma) reports that once Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) visited a sick villager, and whenever he would visit the sick he used to recite the following du‘aa:

Do not grieve (do not worry), Insha Allah through this sickness you will obtain purity (from your sins).

Hazrat ibn ‘abbaas (radhiallahu ‘anhuma) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “Whoever recites the following du'aa seven times upon a sick person -who is not destined to die in that sickness- Allah Ta‘ala will cure him from that sickness:

I beseech Allah Ta‘ala, the Almighty, the Lord of the great throne, to cure you.”
