Sunnats of the Musjid – Part Eight

26. Remain calm while seated in the Musjid and do not be unmindful of the sanctity of the place. Some people whilst waiting for salaah fidget with their clothing or play with their cellphones. This is against the honour and respect of the Musjid.

ذٰلِکَ ٭ وَ مَنۡ یُّعَظِّمۡ شَعَآئِرَ اللّٰہِ فَاِنَّہَا مِنۡ تَقۡوَی الۡقُلُوۡبِ ﴿۳۲﴾

And whoever holds in honour the symbols of Allah, indeed such (honour) comes from the piety of the heart.

وَ مَنۡ اَظۡلَمُ مِمَّنۡ مَّنَعَ مَسٰجِدَ اللّٰہِ اَنۡ یُّذۡکَرَ فِیۡہَا اسۡمُہٗ وَ سَعٰی فِیۡ خَرَابِہَا ؕ اُولٰٓئِکَ مَا کَانَ لَہُمۡ اَنۡ یَّدۡخُلُوۡہَاۤ اِلَّا خَآئِفِیۡنَ ۬ؕ لَہُمۡ فِی الدُّنۡیَا خِزۡیٌ وَّ لَہُمۡ فِی الۡاٰخِرَۃِ عَذَابٌ عَظِیۡمٌ ﴿۱۱۴﴾

And who are more unjust than those who prevent the name of Allah from being mentioned in His Masaajid and strive towards their destruction. It is not fitting for them to enter them except in fear. For them in this world is disgrace and they will have in the Hereafter a great punishment.

27. Assist in keeping the Musjid clean and tidy.

عن أبي قرصافة أنه سمع النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم يقول : ابنوا المساجد وأخرجوا القمامة منها فمن بنى لله مسجدا بنى الله له بيتا في الجنة فقال رجل : يا رسول الله وهذه المساجد التي تبنى في الطريق قال : نعم وإخراج القمامة منها مهور الحور العين رواه الطبراني في الكبير (الترغيب والترهيب رقم 428 ، مجمع الزوائد رقم 1949)

Hazrat Abu Qirsaafa (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “Build Masaajid and remove dirt from it. The one who builds a Musjid for the sake of Allah Ta‘ala, Allah Ta‘ala will build for him a palace in Paradise.” A person mentioned, “O Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), are you referring to building Masaajid similar to these Masaajid built on the road?” Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) replied, “Yes, and removing the dirt from the Masaajid earns one the reward of paying the mahr of the hoors of Jannah.”

28. Do not bring infants, children who are underage and do not know the aadaab of the Musjid or insane people in the Musjid.

عن واثلة بن الأسقع أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قال جنبوا مساجدكم صبيانكم ومجانينكم (سنن ابن ماجة رقم 750)

Hazrat Waathilah bin Asqa’ (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “Keep your children and insane people away from the Musjid.”
