7. Shaving and trimming the moustache are both sunnah. Both are established from the Mubaarak Ahaadith of Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam). However, although most of the Hanafi Jurists have regarded both to be sunnah, they have preferred shaving the moustache. The moustache should not be left to the point that it overlaps the upper lip.

عن ابن عباس رضي الله عنهما قال: كان النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم يقص أو يأخذ من شاربه وكان إبراهيم خليل الرحمن صلوات الرحمن عليه يفعله. (ترمذي رقم 2760)

Hazrat ibnu ‘Abbaas (radhiyallahu ‘anhuma) reports that Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) used to trim his moustache, and Hazrat Ebrahim (‘alaihis salaam), (who had received the title of) Khaleel-ur-Rahmaan [the friend of Allah Ta‘ala], also used to trim his moustache.”
