6. The words of salaam end with “Wa barakaatuhu”. One should not add any other words after “Wa barakaatuhu”

Muhammad bin ‘Amr bin ‘Ataa’ (rahimahullah) reports, “On one occasion, I was seated with Hazrat ‘Abdullah bin ‘Abbaas (radhiyallahu ‘anhuma) when a person from Yemen entered the gathering and made salaam saying, ‘Assalaam ‘alaikum wa rahmatullahi wabaraakatuhu’ and he then added some words with the salaam. Hazrat ‘Abdullah bin ‘Abbaas (radhiyallahu ‘anhuma) asked, “Who is this person?” as at that time, he had lost his eyesight. His companions said, “This is the person from Yemen who comes to your gatherings regularly.” They described the person until Hazrat ‘Abdullah bin ‘Abbaas (radhiyallahu ‘anhuma) recognized him. Hazrat ‘Abdullah bin ‘Abbaas (radhiyallahu ‘anhuma) then said, “Salaam ends with barakah (i.e. by saying wabaraakatuhu).””
