Sunnats of Sitting in a Deeni Discourse – Part Three

Written by

5. One should listen attentively to the speaker.

6. Whilst the Deeni discourse is in progress, one should not be engaged in any other activity other than paying attention to the speaker e.g. looking around, playing with the cell-phone, speaking to someone, fidgeting with something etc.

Hazrat ‘Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) had great love for the Ahl-e-Bayt, the blessed family of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam). The following incident sheds light on the loving relationship which they enjoyed. Similarly, it shows the sentiments of indebtedness towards Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) and his mubaarak family, the Ahl-e-Bayt, in the heart of Hazrat ‘Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu).

Hazrat Husain (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) mentions the following incident which transpired during his childhood:

Once, I came to Hazrat ‘Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) while he was seated on the mimbar, delivering a khutbah. I ascended the mimbar towards him and said, “Descend from the mimbar of my father (in some reports, “my grandfather’s mimbar”), and go to your father’s mimbar!” Hazrat ‘Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) gently and lovingly replied, “My father did not have a mimbar.” Hazrat ‘Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) then picked me up and placed me at his side on the mimbar, where I sat, turning some pebbles in my hand. After he had completed delivering the khutbah, he proceeded to his home with me. He then asked me, “Who told you to come to the mimbar?” I replied, “By Allah, nobody told me.”

The Eight Doors of Jannah

Written by

Hazrat Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “Whoever performs a perfect wudhu and then recites the following dua, the eight doors of Jannat are opened for him and he may enter from whichever door he wishes:

أشهد أن لا إله إلا الله وحده لا شريك له وأشهد أن محمدا عبده ورسوله اللهم اجعلني من التوابين واجعلني من المتطهّرين

I testify that there is none worthy of worship but Allah who is alone and has no partner, and I testify that Muhammed (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) is His slave and messenger. O Allah! Make me be among those who constantly repent and among those who are extremely pure.”

Qutb Al-Halabi (rahimahullah) mentions, “I once met Abu Ishaaq, Ebrahim bin ‘Ali bin ‘Atiyyah Al-Taleedami (rahimahullah). He said to me, ‘I was blessed with the mubaarak vision of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) in a dream. On seeing him, I said to him, ‘O Rasul of Allah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam)! I request you to intercede for me on the Day of Qiyaamah!’ Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) replied, ‘Recite abundant durood upon me.’’”

Caution in Fatwa – Part Two

Written by

‘Amr bin Yazeed was a friend of Imaam Maalik (rahimahullah) who lived in Egypt. He narrates the following:

I once said to Imaam Maalik (rahimahullah), “O Abu ‘Abdillah! People travel to you from different lands. They wear out their animals and spend their money in coming to you so that they can ask you their masaa’il and benefit from the knowledge of Deen which Allah Ta‘ala has blessed you with. Thereafter, when they ask you their question, you often tell them, ‘I do not know the answer.’”

Hazrat ‘Ali’s (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) deep love for Hazrat ‘Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) could be gauged from the following incident. In this incident, besides Hazrat ‘Ali (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) informing the ummah of the high and lofty position of Hazrat ‘Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), he also expressed the desire to meet Allah Ta‘ala with the actions of Hazrat ‘Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu). Hence, we find that Hazrat ‘Ali (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) greatly loved Hazrat ‘Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) during his lifetime and even after his demise. He held him in the highest esteem and regarded him to be the greatest leader of this ummah after Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu).

Sunnats of Sitting in a Deeni Discourse – Part Two

Written by

3. The primary purpose for one participating in a Deeni discourse is for one to correct and reform himself and to acquire the knowledge of the sunnah (i.e. the mubaarak lifestyle of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam)).

4. One should consider the Deeni discourse as a means of spiritual medication and consider it to be directed to oneself.

The Key to Jannah

Written by

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “Every person in my ummah will enter Jannah, except those who refuse.” The Sahaabah (radhiyallahu ‘anhum) asked, “O Rasul of Allah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam)! Who are those who refuse?” Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) replied, “Those who obey me (believe in me and follow my way) will enter Jannah (forever), and those who disobey me (they do not believe in me) have refused (hence they will remain in Jahannum forever).”

Hazrat Abu Dardaa (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “Whoever recites ten durood upon me in the morning and ten durood upon me in the evening, he will receive my intercession on the Day of Qiyaamah.”
