The Islam of Hazrat ‘Afeef Kindi (radhiyallahu ‘anhu)

Written by

Hazrat ‘Afeef Kindi (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) was a friend of Hazrat ‘Abbaas (radhiyallahu ‘anhu). He was an ‘itr merchant by trade. Due to his trade, he would often travel to Yemen.

Hazrat ‘Afeef Kindi (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) says, “I was once in Mina with Hazrat ‘Abbaas (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) when a man arrived. This man first performed wudhu in an excellent manner and then stood to perform salaah. Thereafter, a woman appeared, performed wudhu in the same manner and also stood to perform salaah. A little while later, an eleven-year-old boy arrived. He also performed wudhu and stood to perform salaah at the side of this man.

The Islam of Hazrat Ja’far (radhiyallahu ‘anhu)

Written by

One day, Hazrat ‘Ali (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) was standing beside Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) on the right side performing salaah with him. Coincidentally, Abu Taalib passed by with Hazrat Ja’far (radhiyallahu ‘anhu). When Abu Taalib saw Hazrat ‘Ali (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) performing salaah with Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), he addressed Hazrat Ja’far (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) saying, “O son! You should also support your cousin like Hazrat ‘Ali (radhiyallahu ‘anhu). Stand on the left of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) and join them in salaah.”

Hazrat Ja’far (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) was also one of the first Sahaabah (radhiyallahu ‘anhum) to embrace Islam. He was either the twenty first or twenty fifth person to embrace Islam.

(Extracted from Seeratul Mustafa 1/160-161)

Whenever the hour of salaah would approach, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) would perform his salaah secretly in a valley or mountain pass.

On one occasion, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) was performing his salaah with Hazrat ‘Ali (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) in a certain mountain pass when Abu Taalib suddenly came their way. Until that time, Hazrat ‘Ali (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) had not revealed his Islam to his parents, uncles and other relatives. Abu Taalib addressed Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) asking, “O nephew! What religion is this? What kind of worship is this?”

As soon as Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) embraced Islam, he began to invite people towards Deen. Whenever he met his close friends or they met him, he would invite them towards Islam.

As a result of his inviting to Islam, the following personalities from his friends entered the fold of Islam:

Hazrat ‘Uthmaan bin ‘Affaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), Hazrat Zubair bin ‘Awwaam (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), Hazrat ‘Abdur Rahmaan bin ‘Auf (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), Hazrat Talhah bin ‘Ubaidillah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) and Hazrat Sa’d bin Abi Waqqaas (radhiyallahu ‘anhu).

These eminent people of the Quraish and noble members of their respective families embrace Islam at the hands of Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu). He thereafter brought all of them to Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) where they reaffirmed their Imaan. They then joined Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) for salaah.

When all his household members accepted Islam, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) invited his intimate friends and close associates to embrace this great blessing of Islam.

The first person that he invited to bring Imaan and accept Islam was his faithful friend, his childhood acquaintance and his intimate confidant, Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu). Without hesitating for even a moment, Hazrat Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) accepted Rasulullah’s (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) invitation the moment it was extended to him.

The Very First People to Accept Islam – Part Two

Written by

On the day after Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) was blessed with prophethood, he was performing salaah with Hazrat Khadijah (radhiyallahu ‘anha) when Hazrat ‘Ali (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) saw them and asked, “What is this?” Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) replied, “This is the deen of Allah Ta‘ala. The prophets of Allah Ta‘ala brought this very same deen to the world. I am inviting you to Allah Ta‘ala; to worship Him alone and renounce (the idols of) Laat and ‘Uzza.”

Hazrat ‘Ali (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) replied, “This is something utterly new which I have never heard before. Until I do not mention this to my father, Abu Taalib, I cannot make any decision.” Since Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) was reluctant for his secret to be revealed to anyone, he said, “O ‘Ali! If you do not wish to embrace Islam, don’t mention it to anyone else.”

The Very First People to Accept Islam – Part One

Written by

The very first person to accept Islam was the beloved wife of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), Hazrat Khadijatul Kubraa (radhiyallahu ‘anha). She was also the very first person to perform salaah with Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) in jamaat on a Monday evening. Hence, she is regarded as the first of the Ahl-e-Qiblah (first of the muslims to perform salaah).

Thereafter, Hazrat Waraqah bin Nawfal (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) was honored with embracing Islam. After Hazrat Waraqah bin Nawfal (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), Hazrat ‘Ali (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), who had been in the care of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) for some time, accepted Islam at the age of ten.

On Tuesday, one day after Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) was blessed with prophethood, he also performed salaah with Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) in jamaat.

(Extracted from Seeratul Mustafa 1/154-155)

After tauheed and risaalat (the oneness of Allah Ta‘ala and being blessed with prophethood), the very first thing which Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) was taught was wudhu and salaah.

Hazrat Jibraa’eel (‘alaihis salaam) commenced by stamping his heel on the ground, causing a spring to flow. Hazrat Jibraa’eel (‘alaihis salaam) then performed wudhu with this water while Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) observed his actions. Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) then also performed wudhu accordingly. Thereafter, Hazrat Jibraa’eel (‘alaihis salaam) performed two rakaats of salaah with Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) following him in the salaah. After learning to perform wudhu and salaah, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) returned home and taught Hazrat Khadijah (radhiyallahu ‘anha) how to perform wudhu and salaah.

Date of Prophethood

Written by

All the Muhadditheen and Historians are unanimous on the fact that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) was bestowed with the mantle of prophethood on a Monday. However, there is a difference of opinion regarding the actual month in which he was blessed with nubuwwah.

Haafiz ibnu ‘Abdil Barr (rahimahullah) says that he was blessed with prophethood on the eighth of Rabee’-ul’Awwal. Hence, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) was exactly forty years old when he became the Nabi of Allah Ta‘ala.

According to Muhammed bin Ishaaq (rahimahullah), Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) was blessed with prophethood on the 17th of Ramadhaan. According to this view, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) was forty years and six months at the time of receiving prophethood.

Haafiz ibnul Hajar (rahimahullah) has mentioned in Fat-hul Baari that the latter view is the preferred view and correct view, as it was in Ramadhaan that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) would remain in i’tikaaf in the cave of Hiraa’ (and it was during the i’tikaaf in Hiraa’ that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) was blessed with prophethood).

(Extracted from Seeratul Mustafa 1/145)

On one occasion, Hazrat Khadijah (radhiyallahu ‘anha) requested Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) saying, “If possible, then definitely inform me when the angel comes to you again.” Hence, when Hazrat Jibreel (‘alaihis salaam) again arrived, then as promised, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) informed her of his arrival.
