Hazrat ‘Abdullah bin Mas‘ood (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) mentions:

I was witnessing this entire scene, but there was nothing that I could do. As for the disbelievers, they were looking at one another and laughing, to such an extent that they were actually falling on one another.

In the meantime, Hazrat Faatimah (radhiyallahu ‘anha), who was merely four or five years old at that time, came running to her father and pushed the intestines from his back. Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) raised his head from sajdah and invoked the curse of Allah Ta‘ala upon the Quraish three times.

The Quraish were very worried and disturbed by the curse of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), as they believed that du‘aas are readily accepted in the city of Makkah Mukarramah. Thereafter, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) specifically cursed Abu Jahl, ‘Uqbah bin Rabee‘ah, Shaibah bin Rabee‘ah, Waleed bin ‘Utbah, Umayyah bin Khalaf, ‘Uqbah bin Abi Mu‘ait and ‘Umaarah bin Waleed. He cursed each person by name, and most of these individuals were killed in the Battle of Badr.

It was after this incident that the following verse pertaining to the purity of clothing in salaah was revealed, “And purify your clothing.”

Hazrat ‘Aa’ishah (radhiyallahu ‘anha) narrates that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “I used to live between two of the most evil neighbours; Abu Lahab and ‘Uqbah bin Abi Mu‘ait. They would both bring filth and dirt and cast it down at my door.”
