Ma’n bin ‘Eesa (rahimahullah) narrates:

When Imaam Maalik (rahimahullah) would intend to sit and narrate the Ahaadeeth of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), he would first take a bath, burn bukhoor (incense) and apply ‘itr. If any person raised his voice in the gathering of Imaam Maalik (rahimahullah), he would stop him and say, “Allah Ta‘ala has mentioned:

یٰۤاَیُّہَا الَّذِیۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡا لَا تَرۡفَعُوۡۤا اَصۡوَاتَکُمۡ فَوۡقَ صَوۡتِ النَّبِیِّ

O you who believe! Do not raise your voices above the voice of the Nabi (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam)

Hence when a person raises his voice before the Hadith of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), it is as if he has raised his voice above the voice of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam).”

Note: Some narrations mention that Imaam Maalik (rahimahullah) would perform wudhu before narrating Hadith, while other narrations mention that he would take a bath. Perhaps Imaam Maalik (rahimahullah) would sometimes take a bath, while at other times, he would suffice on making wudhu.
