Mis‘ar bin Kidaam (rahimahullah) narrates:

Imaam Abu Hanifah (rahimahullah) had prepared a set of clothing that was more valuable than all his other clothing. This set comprised of a kurta, pants, shawl and turban, and its value was 1500 Dirhams or perhaps even more than that.

After performing the Esha Salaah, when all the people had retired to bed, Imaam Abu Hanifah (rahimahullah) would remove the clothing which he had worn during the day and would wear this extremely valuable set of clothing. After donning this set of clothing, he would apply ‘itr and thereafter stand in Salaah until the time of Fajr set in.

A person once asked Imaam Abu Hanifah (rahimahullah), “People generally wear this type of valuable clothing when they will enter into the presence of the king or will attend an important function.” Imaam Abu Hanifah (rahimahullah) replied, “Adorning oneself to stand before Allah Ta‘ala is better than to adorn oneself to stand before people.”

Note: Imaam Abu Hanifah (rahimahullah) would wear beautiful clothing at the time of Salaah in order to practice on the verse of the Qur’aan Majeed:

یٰبَنِیۡۤ اٰدَمَ خُذُوۡا زِیۡنَتَکُمۡ عِنۡدَ کُلِّ مَسۡجِدٍ وَّ کُلُوۡا وَ اشۡرَبُوۡا وَ لَا تُسۡرِفُوۡا ۚ اِنَّہٗ لَا یُحِبُّ الۡمُسۡرِفِیۡنَ ﴿٪۳۱﴾

O children of Aadam (‘alaihis salaam)! Take your adornment at every time and place of Salaah, and eat and drink, but do not waste, for indeed Allah Ta‘ala does not love those who waste.
