Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhuma) reports that Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “When the servant of Allah Ta‘ala speaks a lie, the angels (appointed to protect him) distance themselves and go one mile away from him on account of the stench of his lie (which he has spoken).”

Treating Wives with Kindness

Written by

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “A believing husband should not have hatred for his believing wife. If he dislikes any quality in her, then he will be pleased with another quality in her.”

A Du‘aa for the Goodness of Both Worlds

Written by

The father of Hazrat Abu Maalik Ashja’ee (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) [whose name is Hazrat Taariq bin Ashyam (radhiyallahu ‘anhu)], reports that he was once with Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) when a Sahaabi came to him and enquired, “O Rasul of Allah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam)! When I am making du‘aa to my Rabb, then what words should I use in my du‘aa (and what should I ask for)?” Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “When making du‘aa, then say the following (begging Allah Ta‘ala for the following four bounties):

اَللّٰهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِيْ وَارْحَمْنِيْ وَعَافِنْيْ وَارْزُقْنِيْ

O Allah! Forgive me, shower Your special mercy upon me, bless me with ease, and provide me with sustenance!”

(As Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) mentioned each bounty,) he closed one finger, until four of his fingers were closed, besides his thumb. Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) then said, “These (four) bounties are so great that they encompass for you (the entire goodness of) your dunya (worldly life) and your Aakhirah.”

Love being Placed in the Hearts of Allah’s Servants

Written by

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “Indeed, when Allah Ta‘ala is pleased with a servant (due to his piety), He calls out to Jibreel (‘alaihis salaam) and says, ‘Indeed I love so-and-so, so you should also love him.’ Hence, Hazrat Jibreel (‘alaihis salaam) begins to love him. Thereafter, Hazrat Jibreel (‘alaihis salaam) calls out in the sky and says, ‘Indeed, Allah Ta‘ala loves so-and-so, so all of you should also love him.’ Accordingly, the inhabitants of the sky begin to love him. Thereafter, his acceptance comes down and is placed in the earth (i.e. his love enters the hearts of Allah Ta‘ala’s servants. On the contrary,) when Allah Ta‘ala is displeased with a servant (due to his sinning and evil), He calls out to Jibreel (‘alaihis salaam) and says, ‘Indeed, I am displeased with so-and-so, so you should also be displeased with him.’ Hence, Hazrat Jibreel (‘alaihis salaam) becomes displeased with him. Thereafter, Hazrat Jibreel (‘alaihis salaam) calls out in the sky and says, ‘Indeed, Allah Ta‘ala is displeased with so-and-so, so all of you should also be displeased with him.’ Accordingly, the inhabitants of the sky become displeased with him. Thereafter, hatred for him comes down and is placed in the earth (i.e. hatred for him enters the hearts of Allah Ta‘ala’s servants).”

Forgetting the Knowledge of Deen due to Sins

Written by

It is reported that Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas’ood (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) once mentioned, “I certainly know that on account of the sin that a person commits, he forgets the knowledge of deen as he had learnt it.”

Note: When a person commits sins, then due to the ill-effects of the sin, a person is deprived of the noor and barakah of ilm. At times, he is deprived of the true understanding of the knowledge, and at times, he forgets the knowledge entirely – may Allah Ta‘ala save us!

The Three Eyes that will not See Jahannum

Written by

Hazrat Mu’aawiyah bin Haydah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “There are three people whose eyes will not see the fire of Jahannum (i.e. they will be kept away from Jahannum.) The (first person is the one whose) eye was guarding (the Muslims) in the path of Allah Ta‘ala, the (second person is the one whose) eye shed tears out of the fear of Allah Ta‘ala, and (the third person is the one whose) eye was restrained from looking at haraam (i.e. all those things which Allah Ta‘ala has prohibited one from looking at).”

Three Golden Advices

Written by

Hazrat Abu Zarr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports, “Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) once addressed me and said, ‘Fear Allah Ta‘ala wherever you may be, (if you commit an evil deed, then) carry out a good action after the wrong, as the good action will cause the effect of the sin to be erased, and deal with people with excellent character.”

Note:

It is reported in many Ahaadith that carrying out good deeds is a means of expiating sins e.g. making wudhu, performing salaah, giving sadaqah, etc. are a means of one’s sins being wiped out. Similarly, in this Hadith, mention is made that carrying out a good deed after a sin causes the effect of the sin to be erased.

It should be borne in mind that according to the Muhadditheen, these types of Ahaadith refer to minor sins. The Muhadditheen explain that as far as major sins are concerned, then tawbah is necessary. Hence, if a person has committed any major sin, then he should make tawbah and also carry out a good deed thereafter so that this will be a further compensation for the wrong that he has done.

The Hidden Delights of Jannah

Written by

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) mentioned that Allah Ta‘ala has said, “I have prepared for My pious servants such bounties which no eye has ever seen, no ear has ever heard of, and the thought of which has not crossed the heart (i.e. the mind and imagination) of any person.” Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) then said, “If you wish (to find mention of this in the Qur’aan Majeed), then recite the following verse, ‘No person knows what delights of the eye are kept hidden (in store) for them - as a reward for their (good) deeds.’”

Note: In many verses of the Qur’aan Majeed and in various Ahaadith, different bounties of Jannah have been mentioned and described. Hence, the bounties mentioned in this Hadith refer to those bounties which have not been mentioned and described anywhere in the Qur’aan and Hadith.
