عن الزبير بن عدي قال: أتينا أنس بن مالك فشكونا إليه ما نلقى من الحجاج فقال: اصبروا فإنه لا يأتي عليكم زمان إلا الذي بعده شر منه حتى تلقوا ربكم سمعته من نبيكم صلى الله عليه وسلم (صحيح البخاري، الرقم: 7068)

Hazrat Zubair bin ‘Adiyy (rahimahullah) reports, “We once came to Hazrat Anas bin Maalik (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) and complained to him of the oppression and tyranny we were suffering at the hands of Hajjaaj bin Yusuf. Hazrat Anas (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) responded, ‘Remain patient, for there is no era that will come upon you, except that the era after it will be even worse, (and this decline and retrogression will continue) until you meet your Rabb. I heard these words from your Nabi (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam).’”

Note: From this Hadith, we understand that as time passes, and we draw closer to Qiyaamah, then the fitnahs and trials will continue to intensify and worsen. The solution, in these trying times, is for us to remain steadfast by holding firmly onto deen and doing our best to save ourselves, our families and others from the waves of fitnah.
